What’s the good and the bad? Looking for one to ride around the house with my kid on trails etc. We have soul e bikes now which I’m keeping but want something more trail worthy.

The good, they rip!
The bad, they’re an e moto, not an e bike. Aka not legal on the street or multi use trails.
Is there dealers that stock them to go compare all models?

They are illegal on the streets and most trails....they are not an e-bike, they are considered an electric motorcycle....and law enforcement are really trying to crackdown on them, ticketing and impounding...

A place in Anaheim does. Shop name escapes me.
My friends kid got his impounded in Newport not long ago.

Yes, if you are looking to ride mtb trails, I would look into electric mountain bikes, not the Surron or the Super73 I mentioned above...

Had the surron and segway version. They are super fun to ride. I got them early on before the craze started and before everyone deemed then illegal and unsafe!!
We had fire trails around my area that we could ride them and not be around people. As soon as they got popular and kids started riding them to school or on the street, they are now looked upon as the devil!! If you own your land and have cool places to ride, away from people, I would run it.

Are the batteries readily easy to swap? Just curious cause that seems like the biggest no-brainer that none of these electric anything are doing.

Look at the Stayc bikes for the kids. Using the cordless power tool batteries is SOOOO much easier and straight forward for those things.

Yes, Super easy to swap, takes 2 to 5 minutes. but they have a pretty decent range. I'm a big guy and I could get 20 to 30 miles out of one ride. My teenage son who was half my weight rode the same 20 to 30 miles and still had 40 to 50 % of his battery left.

Son had the latest version of the Talaria..the concept is great but the final product is junk. After every ride there was going to be a few things that loosened up..ie sprocket, rims, spokes, fork we’re constantly leaking even with the upgraded fork. Shock linkage was always loosening up..but he was riding everyday ripping the trails around our home. If there was a more robust version that maybe better. But he’s back on to riding his 110 that’s holds up way better..but not silent
I ended up trading the Talaria for a 2023 KX250x and then sold that for $6200. It worked out in the end.

Sounds like the surron is out. I have a brand new 2024 crf 110 I haven’t ridden yet for the desert with them on the bikes but want something for around here

You don’t want a Super 73 for riding trails. They are fun around town but not good in the dirt. All around horrible bicycles really.
Here’s mine, now that Turbo Levo in the background is f’ing awesome in the dirt. Everything an eMTB should be. And it has 3x the range of the Super.

Where I am at, the cops look for them and confiscate them. Usually the kids or adults will get one warning before it's taken.

They are sick, but also look at the Mantis.

I passed a kid face down on the sidewalk recently with his surron piled on top of him.

Three cars had already pulled over to help, I never did hear a siren so I don't know the outcome.

But the kid was motionless...

Fast as fuck, and people are getting themselves seriously hurt on them lately. If you get one, keep it off the main roads if you want to keep it.

I have (4) S73s in my garage and all my kids friends have them, have had no real issues with them besides issues caused by the kids doing things with them that they were not made for...I disagree 100% and think they are great bikes....but I also agree that if you are looking for something for real offroad trails, then the S73 is not the bike and you're right, an eMTB is the way to go...

I commuted close to 50 miles a day on my Super with zero problems. (Long Beach to Placentia and back) Pop the battery off and try to ride it around the block. Try and ride it up a steep hill and it stalls out.
They are fun, fun like an old mini bike with a briggs. Both have horrible geometry but still fun.

Ohhh yeah, I get that, they are heavy and pedaling is a bitch...I have ran out of battery on mine and it wasnt fun...but that being said, I upgraded to one with gears (thats why we have 4 now instead of 3) and it makes the pedaling a little easier...not sure about the steep hills thing...we live in a fairly hilly neighborhood and havent had any problems, but I am not sure if they would be considered "steep"....

But when I want to hit the real dirt trails, I jump on my eMTB, not the 73's

We are on the same page I’m thinking. For a guy looking at Surrons I couldn’t in good faith recommend a Super 73.

Many kids in my area erratically ride Surrons on the roads in traffic as if they are licensed motorcycles. Most are probably Jr high age at best and its a disaster waiting to happen IMO. I'm all for kids riding and getting out but if I was their parent no way in hell they are riding them on the roads in traffic.

With that said, myself and many friends have Surrons and they are a blast in the dirt. Can't really consider these ebikes its basically an eMX bike. We have all gotten our bikes from Charged Cycle Works in Utah. Brian is a good dude and his pricing is better than most even with the shipping costs.

My main want for the Surron was for trails not main roads. My kid is stupid good on his stacyc so I thought it would be fun to have something with real suspension etc to ride so it’s more comfortable for me. I’ve seen kids around my neighborhood riding them as if they have a death wish how some parents let them have something like this in the 10-14 age range is beyond me.

Bunch of Kids at MTF have them and play around on them on the track after training. When my kid was there he wanted one. I just said, you have 4 dirtbikes and a pitbike. No - Get a job...

He never asked again. They do look like a good time tough.

If he decided to stay another year, I would imagine I would have broke down and bought one.

I feel like, bang for the buck, the surron is pretty damn good. I wound up selling ours because i saw the writing on the wall of the local crack down, and my kid was getting his drivers license and needed a car. I do miss them, but would not want to deal with the locals being pissed off all the time at us for riding them to our local trails.

They're a HUGE problem in HB, packs of 60 kids on Surrons take over downtown and PCH. When PD gets a hold of one they impound for 30 days plus fines etc.. The kids are mostly (not all) dumbasses and play chicken with on coming traffic on 45 mph streets, take over lanes and generally ride around like its the desert. My boys have dirtbikes and ride very well but I refuse get them ebikes let alone Surrons.
