Hate this fake wood look that came with my boat. It's a 6 hole pattern, sea star hydraulic helm. Is the 6 hole pattern a universal pattern, i.e. if I order a 6 hole wheel from cp or Eddie it should fit?

Are auto wheels the same 6 bolt pattern as a boat helm?

The key is knowing the diameter of the bolt circle if a steering wheel will fit. Since you have a six bolt pattern that will be easy to measure. Measure the center to center distance between the two holes 180 degrees apart, that will be the bolt circle. The bolt circle will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer so don't assume that because it's a 6 hole bolt pattern it will work. Knowing the Bolt Circle Diameter will guide you in the right direction on getting a wheel that will fit...

Hey Walt, it that thing that makes your cars, trucks and boats go left and right if your hands are on it and motion them to the left or right:thumbup:

Hard to tell from your picture, but those 6 allen screws could be 100% decorative.

If so, then the center medallion pops out and you just remove the nut.

Can you post a pic of the area between the back of the steering wheel and the dash/helm assembly?

Hubs fit the tapered shafts with woodruff key. The shaft is pretty much universal, I'd be surprised if you had something different. The hub is what determines what pattern steering wheel fits on it. You can buy whatever wheel you want, just make sure you get the right hub for it. Someone said that wheel may be part of the hub and those bolts are decorative. That's entirely possible. I've seen that once or twice.

You may want to check out a wheel with symetrical spokes. With hydraulic steering the wheel does not always finish turning with the spokes in the same position. A 3 spoke symetrical wheel will never look off center

I have that same wheel but with black rubber instead of faux wood. As said before here, the 6 Allens hold it into a hub witch goes onto a tapered shaft with a key way and a lock nut on the end and needs a puller to remove. Pop that center cap off (it's just plastic that sticks inside a hole) and you'll see the nut and the end of the shaft.

That being the case if I get a wheel with the same diameter across in the holes It should be just a simple swap? Use the same hub I mean.

Same bolt pattern should work just fine. At that point, the taper and length of the shaft is already dealt with by the hub. It then just becomes a matter of bolting something to the hub with the same bolt pattern.

Can't you just buy a new hub and put whatever wheel you want on that? Isn't it just the shaft (don't know the diameter) and a lock that the shaft slides over? I might be mistaken but isn't that wheel just part of a kit from Teleflex?

Talk to Bob at Dana he can pretty much look at the picture and tell you what bolt pattern you have etc..

If it was me I'd rock a Le Carra on that boat..

I have the 9 hole pattern with looks about a 3" long hub, then the rubber boot. Does the hub that comes with the Carlotta wheel replace the 3" long hub?

The part the Steering wheel is attached too is just attached to the helm. You can remove that as well and put whatever column / steering wheel you want on it.

I didn't know they came with a HUB? If so then it likely will replace the existing. Call Bob at Dana for Confirmation..

Eddie Marine also has a steering wheel sale going on right now I believe so check with them as well.

Eddie Marine is good for instock parts but very few guys there know what’s what
I looked at the Marine Industries Wests (Dana Marine) website and they don't show a Carlotta wheel.

Just because it’s not listed doesn’t mean he can’t get. Call him. He won’t hold a gun to your head to buy from him, lol
If he can’t get it, he’ll tell you what you need and point you where to go.
FYI many things that aren’t listed he has access to. He works close w livorsi guys, Teague etc...
Likely better profit on “his stuff” but he’s helpful regardless of what you need

Edit : In my vector I’m using an EMI car wheel, and bob made me a one off adapter.
