I am tired of looking at my 2 POS RZRs in my garage for the 350 days of the year I do not use them. Exploring getting an enclosed trailer to enhance my storage situation and my garage situation.

I'd like to get a 26'er dual axel with 10k GVWR. I have several questions.....

  1. What is the difference between those with plywood interior, aluminum skinned interior, or no interior skin? I really don't like the plywood skinned look, but if there's not a structural difference I could live with it.
  2. Torsion Vs. Traditional leaf axel. Pros and cons?
  3. I need to get additional height out of this thing so it is compatible with my snowball of a motorhome and so it will go in my driveway. I have my flat be axels flipped, can i add a space at the mounting points for torsion axels and achieve the same results or is that a no-no?
  4. For those of you that already have an enclosed, is there a feature that you can't go without or wish you added to your trailer? (Power, lights, fuel/water tanks, genny, AC, etc?)
  5. Does age really matter with these things? The Sport Trailer, Universal, and Trailers Unlimited look essentially the same for the last 20 years, does age matter other than wear/tear and tires?
  6. Aluminum Frame or Not? Worth the cost/weight savings?
  7. Height and Width, do I go extra height if i can find it or is that inconsequential?
  8. V-nose, does it come with advantages other than aerodynamics and a small storage space?

The Motorhome in question that I would tow with:

I picked up a 24’ V nose for my 2 SXS.
Base trailer I purchase from a guy who sells trailers off the reservation.

Enclosed Trailer
  • Reverse spot lights on switch
  • Innovative smooth Poly-core .080 metal
  • All steel tubing
  • 5200 TORSION axles (smoother ride IMO)
  • 7 foot interior
  • 6D rings
  • Triple tongue(not double)
  • 3600 lbs dry wt.
Options I added
  • 400w solar and battery system (allows me to keep SXS’s on maintainer)
  • eTrack front to back
  • additional interior lights running off of trailer battery setup and solar

  1. What is the difference between those with plywood interior, aluminum skinned interior, or no interior skin? I really don't like the plywood skinned look, but if there's not a structural difference I could live with it. => No structural difference, just money
  2. Torsion Vs. Traditional leaf axel. Pros and cons? => torsion seems to ride smoother. Sits lower to ground and cost more if you need to raise it.
  3. I need to get additional height out of this thing so it is compatible with my snowball of a motorhome and so it will go in my driveway. I have my flat be axels flipped, can i add a space at the mounting points for torsion axels and achieve the same results or is that a no-no? => yes, it can be done. Cost more then just flipping axels
=> I ended up buying new. Used prices were only 3-5k less then new and the used trailer were beat
  6. Aluminum Frame or Not? Worth the cost/weight savings? => comes down to $$. Aluminum frames will cost more
  7. Height and Width, do I go extra height if i can find it or is that inconsequential?
  8. V-nose, does it come with advantages other than aerodynamics and a small storage space? => my v-nose allowed for additional storage in front.

For what it's worth, we had to reskin my father in laws universal ultra The aluminum was "rotting" in a few places and the wood underneath was damaged in places as well. Look carefully at the older ones for bludges and " holes" in the aluminum.

The plywood was just plywood with a vinyl type sticker on it. He bought it sheets that way from the mfg. Same exact suff that was there before. Looks a whole lot nicer then my standard plywood on my pace i used to have.

Basic things that most of our group has it fuel, water, generator, compressor, tools. Some have less some have more.
Picnic benches, smokers, ezups, awnings, solar, bathrooms, fold down beds, heaters, ac, fridges, inverters, speakers

You want the 5200lb axles but a gvwr of 9,999 or less. 10k or more requires a class A

Quite a few cheap brands out there.

I currently have 4 enclosed. But always looking. I could use a 22-24' rated at 9,999 or less but not 7k. I want 5200-6k axles. Taller is preferred.

You want the thicker aluminum. I think mine was .30 the shit trailers are less than that.
If it’s to thin it expands the heat and will be wavy.

Get a long tongue or v nose for clearance while turning.

Thanks for all that. Any idea what other than adding a spacer is needed for getting some additional height out of the torsion axels?

Nice trailer BTW. What was the dealer name if you don’t mind me asking?

What is the point of the plywood on the interior walls? The universals/sport trailers just have the structure and exterior walls exposed and it looks better to me.

Could one strip the plywood off the walls and add rubber coin flooring and have a better look?

.030 should be my absolute minimum? I’ve seen .080 advertised

The 1/4" or 3/8" plywood is screwed to the frame of the trailer from the outside. Then the aluminum sheeting is bonded/glued to the plywood. That's how it came apart and how it went back together.

Sounds about right. Been a while since I went down the rabbit hole. I know mine didn’t look like shit in the sun. I think they have a composite siding that’s even better now.

I have a V-nose trailer that I'm currently using as sort of a warehouse parked next to my garage....It has the back ramp door, a side man door, and one side of the V nose is another ramp door. It's awesome because you can back the trailer right up to a wall or in a corner blocking both the back door and the man door and still gain access through the front ramp door. I'd put the front V nose ramp door very high on my list of requirements if I purchased another trailer.

Remember, there is an enclosed trailer. There was another one is dor a car and closed trailer

Trailers will have more supports underneath to handle the weight of a car one for ATVs will be a little bit less a structure board underneath, therefore cost a little less also the ramps keep in mind of those some are very heavy duty automobiles, even with a flap down.

What do you think you weigh loaded? Are you a diesel?
Mine is the Ford, I’m not sure because the placard on the tongue that shows trailer info is faded out. I do know up the Cajon Pass and Yucaipa grade if I don’t get a run I’m going to be doing 50, besides that I’m rolling around 70 and don’t fell the trailer. It pulls really nice actually. I have a flat bed also but have no idea how I would get all my shit out on that for a week.

50 is not bad at all for that set up.

If you need additional height maybe look at a deck over enclosed.

Check out the Neo NDO, you may not need to lift it? Mission or blizzard also makes a nice deck over trailer.

I have a “hybrid” deck over trailer for my snowmobiles. Has only 2 inches of drive over fenders inside the trailer. The model is a Neo NMS. All aluminum, torsion axles, built in dove tail, 10k lb, 7ft interior height, trailer is built to haul a vehicle. Order the interior finished any way you want. I got mine fully finished with lights, shore power, outlets, etc.

Here is a clean 26' sport trailer. They are very well built, torsion axles, thick aluminum skin. They also set them up for water and fuel tanks so it's easier to add later if it didn't already come with it. I have a 25' sport, it already had an 80 gallon fuel tank, but I just added a 50 gallon water tank pretty easily.

What do you think that weighs? Is that a good price? Maybe I’m thinking into the weight way too much. I know it’s more weight but if I could add 40 gallons of fuel and 40 gallons on water I’d be in business

I messaged that guy a few days ago. It’s a nice trailer just old.

Said he’s selling for his boss so he didn’t have any info other than come look at it.

There’s this one in San Jacinto too that is cheaper and probably in rougher condition.

They are not light. I think around 6500 dry. I pull it with a 2008 Jayco seneca and it does fine. The price is a little high. I picked up my 2008 with full cabinetry and a built in onan 5500 generator for 12,000.

Here are my 2 cents- take it for what its worth...

I can't believe how expensive trailers have gotten- I purchased a new 24' enclosed from Sky Trailers in 2017 for like $8K OTD... It's not the best, it's not the prettiest, and it doesn't have all of the cool features some of the new ones have, but it works and has been a great trailer with no issues.

A few things I would add and do differently (I have done most of the stuff I listed below):
  • Rubber or epoxy flooring
  • Electic tongue jack
  • Fuel tank and pump station
  • Extra water tank and transfer pump to transfer water to Motorhome
  • Shop lights inside (110v)
  • Winch with in-floor winch mount/box
  • In-floor storage box
  • Drive over fenders
  • E Track- the D rings are worthless.
  • Back up camera
  • Exterior shop lights- the 12v Spot LED are worthless.
  • 8' tall
  • Side door access to access ratchet straps.
You can go down the enclosed trailer rabbit hole on You Tube real easy!
