For the last 10 years, I have been wearing flip flops almost exclusively.

For the last couple of years, everytime I wear shoes, my toes start to hurt. I have flat feet.

Will Arch Supports help the pain in my toes go away? What do arch supports actually do?

Thank you

Let Google be your friend. You will find no foot doctors on here. Just a lot of foot fetishes

Amazon sells orthotic sandals for men. I use em.

Also good feet or running store will custom make em for your shoes.

I have orthotics in my shoes. The ones at the local shoe store do not work. I had mine made to my feet by a podiatrist.
Why did you get orthotics?

I tried arch supports from The Good Feet Store. Super expensive but I got them for free. Super uncomfortable. When ever I use flip flops for a whole weekend my feet ache so I use a sports massager on the bottom of my feet for a couple minutes and it goes right away. Thing is bad ass.

Orthotics are great. I have back issues and feet issues from old injuries and they help tremendously. The first week in them you will want to throw them away because they hurt your feet. Once you get used to them and past that you will never not want them. I get mine from my chiropractor. You have to spend the money on custom ones because store bought ones are shit.

I bet your feet hurt like a SOB the first week or two with them
yes, first week was horrible. I wore them a few hours each day until my feet got used to the orthotics. I get them replaced every 3-4 years.

That is very good info to know.

I was planning on sporadically only using them when I wore shoes. I can go weeks or even months only wearing flip flops. I live in self created bubble. lol

Ive finally decided to address this problem because of the trip to Australia I have planned. On the last cruise I went on, every evening, I wore shoes. The discomfort really affect my evenings. I am trying to find a solution.

My wife has made me an appointment with Happy Feet.

They don’t last as long as I’d like because they are soft but go pick up a set of OOFA flip flops and never look back.

Report back with your findings.. ;).

With my ankle / foot their shoes and flips took me from walking up and down stairs sideways to actually be able to walk up and down stairs somewhat normal.

If I wear anything else even for two days it fucks my whole life up. lol. They are that effective

Go to Roadrunner Sports. They measure and analyze your foot to get the best support and fit to avoid knee, hip, ankle and arch issues. Went there a few years back and I can actually go jogging again. Try it.

I walk out in my shoes, so outer heal gets worn out before shoe, started dealing with some planters fasciitis, very painful! I got some orthodics made, fixed everything for $450 bucks. Foot doctor told me I would be better off not wearing anything before flip flops.

My Reef flip flops have good arch support. Also, my Teva Hurricane 4 sandals also have good arch support. I hiked in Zion and Bryce Canyon with them.

Trim your toenails, for cryin' out loud! 😆

I've suffered from plantar fasciitis and a heel spur for the past 16 months, due to age and wearing vans and flip-flops for decades. I've worn olukais for about 10-12 years, but let them go too long as well as my running shoes. I was being cheap and have suffered now for a while. It's just getting better over the past 3-4 months. I won't make that mistake again.

So yes. I wear orthotics, nearly every day. So does Jeff, for the same injury about 15 years ago. We each have 3-4 sets. We like the Superfeet brand. I have a fresh pair of olukais (the cushiony ones with arch support) and a second pair or orthotic sandals from Tread Labs.

The podiatrist in Havasu made it worse with some shockwave device, but I have a good doctor up here in Montana.

I would see a podiatrist though, regarding your toe pain. Most of them will try to sell you custom orthotics and most insurance doesn't cover them. If you only get the one pair, you will have to switch them out every time you want to wear a different pair of shoes. They did not help my mom at all, but that was 20 years ago. Either way, it would be wise to get a professional opinion on what is causing your toe pain before running out and buying orthotics. The non-custom ones come in a variety of arch support and stiffness. You may do more harm if you choose poorly.

Good luck. Foot pain is no joke.

Actually……..

The one nice thing about this thread, I truly learned something.

After I researched this “Peripheral Neuropathy” I think I need to make a doctors appointment. I have many of the symptoms listed, that have nothing to do with my feet.

Thank you for those that pointed to this……… @angiebaby It was your post, amongst others that enlightened me to this possibility. Again Thank You

My biggest regret……… my symptoms started in 2017. What I read, it says see your doctor soon as you start having symptoms. I hope 7 years is not too long.

I tried Good Feet. They did whatever they do and decided on some inserts and I’ve been wearing them but it’s uncomfortable after a bit and after a day my feet hurt. So I wouldn’t recommend them.

Not going to judge but how many people with foot pain might be a little overweight?

I’ve got high arches and the best thing I did for my feet was lose some weight.

I got plantar fasciitis almost a year ago out of nowhere. Went to the Good Feet Store and paid over $2,000 for arches. They did no good. Went to a podiatrist and got custom orthotics. Better in one week. Now I’m Going from 5mm rise shoes to Zero drop shoes and doing foot strengthening exercises daily. Going barefoot much more. Results are amazing.
Hoping to ditch the orthotics someday soon. Foot strengthening is the key in the long run, and balance is much better!

Those of you that deal with plantars fasciitis might try something that I’ve been doing for a few years now, yoga pose/stretch Donward Dog. I don’t do yoga BUT a buddy told me this cured his PF and it has cured mine as well. I started doing it twice a day for a few weeks till the pain started to go away, then once a day. It hasn’t been back for years and I might do the stretch 2-4 times a week now.

If you are having chronic pain I'd suggest you go to a podiatrist and make sure that you do not have a larger problem.

I have been suffering with foot pain for years and did not have luck getting past my pcp @ Kaiser. I finally went around his back and found out I have metarsalgia and nuroma caused by first metatarsophalangeal movement or in other words the joint behind big toe moves too much and causes you to bear more/all weight on second toe pad in ball of foot.

Cure
My lh gets done early Dec.

Another thing that will help with Plantir is to roll your foot on a golf ball, I would do it for 2-3 minutes before jumping in shower everyday and it helped quite a bit.

Too many replies to read … prob. already been said.
Get GOOD flip flops … you get what you pay for.
I rotate between 3 pairs so I’m not walking on tortillas. And it gives time for the other 2 to re-coupe.

Depending on your weight … if you only have 1 pair …. toss them in the trash after 6 months tops. I’d do every 4 months.

Start mixing in some legit & comfy shoes. New Balance fit my wide / semi-flat feet.

Look onto happy feet insoles, pricey but they worked wonders for my feet and I would spend hours on the steel deck od a boat.

The most comfortable shoes I have ever owned were from Roadrunner. Their process of making custom fitted insoles is very much like ones I have had from a Podiatrist except they make them right on the spot. And the shoes were just middle of the line Asics. Roadrunner really does a great job..

Doc gave me some referrals…….

Blood tests at Quest

Appt for Podiatrist

He completely shot down my self diagnosis of Peripheral Neuropathy.

He also put me on a diet. Lol. I actually started today on the tread mill. Boy am I tiered.

As a funny side note……. I looked at all the flip flops in this thread. NOW, my computer just keeps serving up footwear advertisements.

I don’t know if this is realistic, but I am hoping I can loose 40 pounds in 2 1/2 months. Right now, I am 4 hours into my diet, and I am already fantasizing about a Jersey Mike’s Sub.

I don’t know where to take my boat……… if I am not going to lunch! LOL.

Are buffalo wings considered diet food? (Now I am just being funny)
