Not sure how casual ya wanna go but:
Fog City Diner is a classy joint, not a typical diner.

Usually good experiences for us.

A great cold weather eating place with a great bar, most often nice help, and great Bisques, soups, home made breads etc etc.
Good menu.

The owners finally refurbished the House of Prime rib on Van Ness and the food is better than Lawrys IMHO.:

We ride the bus everywhere in SF.
I wanna say it's the 87 AB and 88 AB lines,, I forget so don't hold me to the line numbers,, but if ya just figure out a couple of busses you can go anyplace there.
Most all bus lines run clockwise and counter clockwise.

It ain't ghetto to ride them,, they really work and save all kinda hassle, and you can jump off when ya see someplace ya wanna visit.

The Headlands is a really cool area. It was the WW1 military post that guarded The Bay. Now it's a state park/museum . It's across the golden gate (heading toward sausalito), then immediately left.. It's the only area in SF that I know of that you can get pics of the entire city (Golden gate, wharf , Alcatraz etc., all in one pic.. Awesome. We've done family xmas pics there before.

It's a little slower pace and the path less travelled, but I always enjoy the trip.

I like walking around ChinaTown, getting adventurous and sampling food at various restaurants.

Oh, and the O'Farrell Theater is pretty cool if you've never been there...once is more than enough, but it's a good time.

Before you go you gotta know the "code".

For example, any place with the name "Headlands" is gay. :D

I can't give you any more suggestions other than that but if you're truly straight you'll know a gay bar when you hear the name.

Remember: When in doubt stay out!

I've been to this fort many times. Awesome view of the city, Golden Gate bridge, the boats coming into the bay. At the top of the hill in the afternoon the fog will roll in and shoots right over the hill and right by your feet. Awesome. You used to be able to climb the fences and check out all the passage ways but i think it's blocked now.

Back at Fishermans Wharf try Aliatos http://www.aliotos.com/ i remember going there as a kid and i would always say why in the hell is this butter so hard. Went back a few years ago and damn the butter was served ice cold. Food was pretty good.

IMO Alcatraz is a must, but book it before you get there. The narrated tour is way cool. Pier 29, crab cocktails and clam chowder a must. Steaks, The Butcher Shop, I think, they cold store/dry age their meat right in full view of passers by on the side walk, very good. China town and Little Italy are way cool.

If your in or around Union Square I reccomend Kuletos its in one of the hotel lobbies just across from macy's. Just across from the Curran theatre is a place we went to a couple of weeks ago called The Farralons, its a great seafood restaraunt but a little pricey. Just down fom Union square on Mission and second is a Roys Restaraunt which is always good no matter where you are. union Square and China town are good for walking and shopping and for people watching. Pier 39 is also good for the same and it is near fishermans wharf. I understand there is a fun jet boat ride you can take on the bay. I believe it leaves from one of the piers right next to pier 39. I dont know where your staying but ask the hotel concierge for other attractions, maybe there is a good show to see, but then again the city is a show in and of itself. While there make sure you call it the city , or San Francisco otherwise they will know you are a tourist. Someone else reccomended the North Beach restaraunt which is always good and fun to walk around (Old Italian neighborhood) Have fun!

I took my GF to Union Sqaure for 4 days on V-day 2 years ago. Union Sqaure is pretty much great for shopping (if your gals into that). We stayed at a really nice place called the Handlery. Someone from PB told me about a resturant called City Scape on top of the Hilton so we went. Great place, food is awsome, view is outstanding. Be sure to make a reservation. And be prepared to drop a few bills.

One day we took the cable car down to Fishermans Warf then rented bikes and rode down down to the Golden Gate Bridge, then crossed it into a little town called Salcildo. Very cool town. From there you can take the Ferry back or ride back. Its a very long ride so you might be tired. The last day we just took the Ferry back to Salcildo and walked around and had lunch.

Id have to ask her some of the names of resturants we went to because I don't ever remember the little things. LOL:rolleyes:

At night head over to Russian Hill. You'll find a bunch of really cool bars! It gets fucking cold there at night.

Just be prepared to see a shit load of homeless people everywhere. Its annoying. :thumbsdown

I was there for work a couple of years ago. I asked the guys I was working where to go to hear live music. They pointed me towards a place called the Boom Boom Club inthe New Fillmore district.

It was a Wenesday night, late fall so I didn't really have my hopes up. It's in a newer re-developed area and as the taxi pulled up there were about a dozen people standing around smoking cigs. As I walked up, the doorman said "hurry up" the bands about to start (probably around 9:30p). Went inside and there was a healthy crowd, especially for mid week, but I was easily able to make to the bar and grab a drink.

On stage, there were two guys with Eukalelei's and one guy playing a stand up bass. I rolled my eyes up as they started out playing a classical Hawaiian tune. I was kind of bummed, but before long they were really jamming, playing everything from STP to BB King. I guess that's what make San Fran so bitchen. Anything goes and it works. The vibe in the joint was hopping too.

They don't take plastic (most places in The City don't), so when they took a short break, I went for a walk to find an ATM. Maybe a block away or so and got a chance to check out the neighborhood. It was trendy but very cool.

I got back in time for the start of the second set and now they had a drummer set up with them and they immediately started rocking the house. Before long some lil Latina asked me to dance and we had a blast. I am so glad I grabbed some cash, cuz now I was buying drinks for two.

We ended up closing the place and I'll leave the rest of the night to your imagination. Needless to say, if I ever get back to San Francisco, I will definately head back to the Boom Boom Club. Check it out, you'll be glad you did.

We understand the Presideo has gone through a major re-build.
Haven't been there since.

Be sure to visit Lavender Hill.
The Rhino fans say Vaseline Alley has a huge array of Rzr's parked up and down the street.
A must see IMHO.

Good idea Dennis. Take the ferry ride to Sausalito for lunch or just exploring.

If the weather is nice go down to the marina green and fort point and across the golden gate bridge (walk, bike or drive)

also look up cliff house for lunch and ocean beach during the day. (great view)
