The thread started earlier got me to thinking. Why don’t people wear them? I do. It was a little weird at first. Kept thinking I’m going to pull that sucker out and kill the motor. I’ve gotten used to it and feel better about having it on. It’s the cheapest thing I’ve ever purchased for the boat and the comfort of know my passengers are safer with me wearing it. If you don’t have one, why not? What’s the problem? Get one!

I tested the one in the wakeboard boat last time we were out. Pulled the string the clip came out but the switch was so crusty it didn’t even budge. Make sure you test em and replace as needed.

My boat doesn't have 1 or I would always wear it. My Buddy rigs the boats at Cobra and didn't believe me. He looked everywhere and couldn't figure out why they built it without. I never got a chance to ask Jeff. Our last conversation didn't go so well.

This again? Everyone on RDP wears them. 🤣

The cops didn’t say anything about people being ejected from the boat. They were all fine and refused medical. Not even sure a lanyard would have prevented it from the police statement.

But yea, probably a good idea to use it along with a life jacket.

I've told a story on here about the time I almost yeet'd my HTM and wasnt wearing it...ever since that day, I wear it on every boat I drive, even a pontoon...and I also remind other friends about theirs when i see they arent wearing it...

Nevermind the baja i saw where the occupants all got tossed and the boat was circling in the gorge with no one on it...

My 1985 Eliminator didn’t come with one. Until I get a recall notice, I’m not going to worry about it 😉

Always and attached to the wrist strap. Had one installed in the little boat before we bought the Formula because it was built without one. Didn't wait for a recall notice on that one.

I mean, if they dont use them at sanctioned events, for sure getting the general public to use them is futile.

I always wear mine on the wrist. Its ignorant not to.

We rented a pontoon over the weekend down on Mission Bay. As the rental girl went over the boat's info to make sure I was competent enough to operate it, I clipped on the lanyard as instructed. We rung that pontoon out to a whopping 16 mph! LOL Verified with Waze. I think it had a 60 HP engine on it.

Barrett, Howard, Tres Martin, DCB all have them for sale. Also here’s a link to the manufacturer of them, sadly they offer cheaper on eBay, or I’d stock them. I have some Barrett ones here as well the color coordinated lanyards.

Most of the time, but sometimes I forget. I’m getting better. I try and remember to put it on the throttle.

Wear it every single time. That's even on the toon.
Habit now. Slide it over hand, turn key on.
Prob a old jet ski habit that never really went away

Not mentioned here, but new Federal Law states all (new) boats since 2019 must be manufactured with them, and all operators of vessels (3HP+) less than 26' must have them attached, except if in a completely enclosed cabin. Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Louisiana, Nevada, New Jersey and Texas have similar laws. Expect other states to follow.

I bought a wriststrap lanyard a few years ago and am pretty good about wearing it. I definitely wear it if I'm going to running above 60, and am trying to get into the habit of wearing it anytime the boat is on plane

I’ve been pitched before. Lanyard and a jacket if I’m north of waterski speed.

Don’t have one. What would it take to add it?
It’s super easy, 3/4” hole and then two screws, the yellow ignition wire from switch to engine gets this in place to interrupt the signal of switched off.
Plastic and aluminum are both available from most boat shops, if you’re anywhere local to Fort Mohave bring it over it’ll take an hour.
You can find plastic one on eBay or Amazon but same 100$ range.

How many people are adding a kill switch to boats that were never rigged with one?
