Is the turbo worth extra money? Looking for a used one 2015 ish. I had a 2016 non turbo and it was good but I’ve never been in one with a turbo or know anyone who went from one to the other. Mainly for dirt riding.

From the research I’ve done it seems like the turbo is mostly for the dunes. We mostly ride in Ocotillo and I will be purchasing a 1000 non turbo in the next week. Prices on the new ones seem comparable to a used one.. looking at 19,500 OTD

I had the non turbo in glamis. Seemed to do fine! Also seemed to be great in the dirt.

Just not sure if it’s a rocket with the turbo!

They both have the same top speed, the turbo gets there faster and has better mid range acceleration.

In the dunes I can see it being worth it. Elsewhere is it debatable if it is worth it and up to you.

Suspension and tire setup is more critical than 50 extra HP for the desert. You can drive a NA 1000 harder than a Turbo, and it is more forgiving. You don’t have to manage as much wheelspin, because the midrange is softer.

My neighbor has had both, and while his Turbo is faster, he says his Xp1000 handled better.

What’s your final decision? According to that article and buying used it seems passing on the turbo might be wise.

Will buy new, 4 seater, but still undecided on the turbo.

Having had both. I'd go the turbo route. The turbo seems like a more solid machine. Completely different motor. Its the 925 motor. Not a boosted 1000 motor. The transmission is different. The reverse is a gear, not a chain like the 1000. The brakes are totally different and larger on the turbo. The turbo has the sway bars in back and in front. The 1000 has just the rear sway bar. The front differential is different on the turbo to handle the increased power. The digital display comes with the turbo. The price difference is about 2500 right now OTD. Since most of us on here like more power it's an easy choice IMO.

What about the older turbos? Are they still good? Where do you notice the extra power the most?

I have a 2018 and compared to a 2016 they've added a larger grill for more cooling. The power has been upped from 144 to 168. They have increased the size of the cooling ducts and belt housing, added better heat shielding for the turbo (which will glow red at idle on a stock machine at night, no bullshit). I drove my 2017 1000 in the dunes with a good paddle tire setup and it went anywhere. Same trip I jumped in my buddies 18' turbo with 30" tensors and drove it for about 2 minutes and I said, "well that just cost me a bunch of money".... I bought a turbo 4 days later.

That’s comforting.

Sounds like maybe the turbo is not a big must for the dirt. Unless your ready to spring for the new turbo S. I want a decent ride but I’m not looking to spend a bunch or purchase new.

The new turbo s is 300 lbs heavier. Has the dynamix suspension. The cage is mediocre at best. Most will swap it out like any other rzr. The seats are good, steering wheel is nice touch. the tires are dismal. My neighbor blew two tires the first ride with his. He upgraded to 15" methods and 32" tensors. I bought a 2018 4 seat turbo because I like the lighter weight car, and all my parts from my 2017 crossed over. A cage from a 16,17,18 will not fit on a 19' if it has intrusion bars and the rear wrap around cage to the bumper. The ride command has a different dash kit. The rockford fosgate stereo setup won't fit in a 19'. If you are starting fresh the definitely go with a 19' The driver centered dash display is awesome, the newer grill and hood combo looks aggressive.

I just went through all this myself a few months ago.. settled on a ‘16 XP41K. I spent some money modding it to my tastes and I have $500 or so more into it than a bone stock new one would cost me.

I like your choice. I’m pretty sure I will do the same. I bought a brand new xp41k in 16 took it right to the shop and spent 5k. Ended up selling it for what I bought it for. I had bought it for glamis and hated it out there. Now I’m over glamis and the sand car was a pain in the ass at the river so I’m back to rzr.

Just bought a 2019 xp41k . With the new dash and grill and swaybar front and rear. Love it. Not the best for glamis (underpowered)., but for everything else it will be perfect. I rent it if you want to try before you buy.

I took our 16 to glamis a few times when we had it. Put it in 4 high and pin it to win it!! I came from a rhino so I was use to picking the best line. Head high and pin it. Would be best if you were with a group of rzrs but we still hung right with the cars in the dunes. But I felt like a big body sand car could literally drive right through it with me and my family in it like a speed bump and that frightened the shit out of me and honestly is probably the main reason I ditched it, now I don’t see us going to glamis for a few years. Once I’m ready to get back to glamis I’ll pick up another car.

So is the suspension good out of the box now? Everyone I know sends shocks out and dumps $$ to make it work. I'm thinking about picking up a nice used one in the low -mid 20's all dialed, or just buying a new 19' turbo or a Can am soon--
Can am shocks are good. Just need some tweaking from the dealer. They set the cars low and stiff to get a good roll over rating. Few hours of adjustments and your good to go.
It hauls ass also

That is a big difference. The non turbo sips and seams to last forever.

Went from built NA to aftermarket turbo - night and day difference in power and fuel consumption.

My rig is leaned on pretty hard on medium setting (20LB boost) From pad 4 to duners diner and back used 3/4 of a tank.

Of course, i was running with a subie rail and 2 funco cars.

Pretty thirsty.

Don't want to spread false rumors, but when we bought our 16 non turbo, which we no longer have, I was told it probably won't burn vs a little more likely.;)
