A few R1 rhinos back in the day. Along with some busa motors. And then you have pace offroad doing the Z1 swaps. Buckshot had the bullet, BFD had the Revo and a few others her and there.

I have a 200HP Evinrude 2-stroke outboard motor sitting on a stand in the back of the shop. Almost every time I walk past it I think about doing a SXS with it. Guessing +250HP with tuned exhaust, free flowing intake, a bit of massage to the ports, . . .

Yes. Most of them were 2wd drive.
Also the motorcycle transmissions don't have fantastic strength as they don't have to deal with shock loads and continual torque in a bike that stays on the ground, and weighs much less.

I thought I read Robby ran a windshield and all was good now? Maybe I misread or maybe the temps were low enough? Or maybe no nets makes a difference?

E85 runs cooler than gas is my guess.. im
Gonna relocate the radiator.

I can confirm. The energy density of e85 is roughly only 70% of a like volume of pump gas. Not only that but ethanol is more stable and slower burning in comparison. All this makes for cooler combustion temps with properly tuned engines.

Easy ways to bring down combustion/engine temps is increasing fuel and/or retarding overall timing.

+5psi fuel pressure on port injection and/or -2° overall timing should probably do it. (or you can reduce boost if you're turboed)

or the ecm can be retuned to do it, or there are inline O2 sensor resistors that can be installed to trick the computer into doing it on close loop fi system.

I don't do SXS but what RG has done is beyond impressive, its sad that the speed vs. the rest of the UTV world commentary is right up there with

Retarding timing will often raise engine temp as less of the energy is turning into mechanical force and more is turned into wasted heat exiting the exhaust port and in turbo charged motors, this raises the turbo speeds and boost, so the waste gate then bypasses more of this energy.

As an example, 2 degrees of timing advance can drop egts like 50-75F on a big block. Which is huge in saving your exhaust valves as well on strung out high hp motors.

I see, what is the problem the windshield creates? Seems removal creates another problem by having the passengers more exposed to getting roosted by a vehicle in front while offroading? Maybe you're far enough appart where that's not necessarily an issue or common issue?

those are EGTs not engine coolant temp. retarding ignition timing in the vast majority of situations reduces cylinder pressure and therefore almost always cylinder temp which generally means lower coolant temps.

Reduced timing will keep the top of the piston cooler though.

These little high efficiency chamber short stroke max performance motorcycle engines, 2 degrees is huge. They adjust timing in fractions of a degree. My guess is they are running probably 15 degrees or less under boost.

the heat is in the combustion chamber regardless but more heat is generated if the mix is fired earlier creating higher cylinder pressures.

He had it on at KOH when we were lined up for Prologue/Qualifying. It was 730AM in Johnson Valley and probably 45* out (+/-). Not sure if he left it on or not, but he told me he was since it was so cold out.

I can tell you I Have seen engines run hot as well, due to retarded timing.

You're right though. It is a balancing act. Everything Must work together.
