True story here. About 2019, Father’s Day weekend…me, the wifey and son went to Benihana’s for dinner here in Torrance..…and guess who was at the hibachi right next to us…none other than John Sykes himself. What the heck is a rockstar doing at a Benihana’s in Torrance, CA??

After I noticed him he had gotten up to use the bathroom I assume. I couldn’t let the opportunity to say hello pass me by so I asked the lady that was with him if that was indeed Mr. Sykes, and she confirmed it was. She didn’t look like his date but maybe a manager or something that had also brought her parents along too. She took my name and email and said she would let me know the next time he would be playing locally.

Once he returned to the table she introduced us and he couldn’t have been nicer. I told him I was a fan of his from Whitesnake and more-so of Blue Murder. We exchanged pleasantries and then continued on with our meal.

When it was time for him to leave he reached out to me and said Happy Father’s Day and went his way. Crazy cool and I’ll never forget that evening.

It’s just too bad he’s been MIA for so long now. Lots of new music that’s gone unreleased. Hopefully his family will publish it one day for the fans.

I think a lot of us were wondering why he's been so distant. We never knew the struggles he was going through. I'm sure his physical health had a lot to do with it.
