My mom with Rickey at a Giants / A's game. Growing up, my older cousin Brian was the biggest Rickey fan. I was too little during his career to really appreciate what an amazing player he was.

Best lead off man in history, by a mile. He had an amazing and long career. Rickey was always one of my all time favorites, and him talking in third person was amazing. Don't usually comment on high profile people who pass but this one sucks.

I could listen for hours to these Ricky Stories. They’re the funniest. Definetly God broke the mold when he gave Ricky to the world. Never gonna be another Ricky again. RIP

He and my wife's brother were good friends. They were on the "A"s together and were both selected (and played) in the '84 All Star Game.

So, Harold Reynolds was talking to my son at the mlb awards show. When Rickey got traded back.to the A's, LaRussa gave Rickey signs to steal or not to steal. Swipe the arm to steal, swipe twice, take off the steal.
Rickey walks, gets on first on a 0-0 playoff game in the 7th inning.

3rd base coach swipes twice, Rickey steal 2nd bas. Coach swipes twice to take.off the sign, Rickey steals 3rd base
Rickey scores on a hit. LaRussa asks him wtf?
Rickey says, " you gave me the take off sign so Rickey took off"

Interesting article about Rickey, I didn't know he finished his career playing in an independent league. More than just a great player, great teammate too.
