Replacing 6x9’s with 8”

Picked up a new to me Hallett 270 and I want to replaced the 6x9’s under the rear bench with 8” subs. Anyone have experience with this or any tips?

Depending upon which 8 you use and how big the existing hole is you may get lucky. The RF 8” uses a 7.15 hole saw, and if those X9’s are cut to fit tight most will only be 7.25” so the surround will cover the extra cut easily.
Did a new panel for a buddy’s boat to go from 6x9 to the JL 7.7’s we just used 3/8” plywood and then coated in resin then covered in vinyl and thin pad over the existing carpet covered seat base to hide it etc. looks like you could easily do something similar if your planned 8’s don’t fit.

JL 880 is a 7.375” cutout.

I ordered the JL M6 8’s and just checked on the website and it says the mounting hole diameter is 7.375, maybe ill get lucky!

My boat had a ton of 6x9s. I had to get plates cut out of aluminum, then got them powder coated.
