I'm looking for some company recomendations and do/don't advise on repiping my house. I live in north San Diego county. It seems like a lot of the results from Google are for Orange County/Inland Empire and north of that. Also what about opinions on copper vs PEX. I want copper but can I afford it? This is my 5th leak in 10 years. I'm tired of tearing up the slab and fixing. I'm ready to replace it all and go overhead. House is a single story ranch 3 br 2 ba. Any tips? Thanks.

If you use copper make sure to use all type L. It is not required but every plumber I know has stopped using M due to pin hole leaks. If you go with Pex make sure it is bought from the supply house. The junk at Home Depot and Lowes is the crimp together type and not approved by most areas.

I repiped the last house with type L copper (customers choice). Last 2 new houses I built I used Uponor Pex with Type L stub outs with brass connections. You are on right path eliminate the slab and reroute it overhead, I do not know any plumbers to refer in your area. Any more questions just ask.

I have a plumber I've used for decades here in the O'side area. Little independent guy. Might be a tad more expensive but he works hard and honestly.
If you want his name let me know.

I've been wondering about the PEX vs copper debate too.
.
Everything I own is copper except the new Havasu house....that's PEX, right on down to the city meter.

Been used for a long time in other countries. I have 1 plumber who only uses and recommends pex due to the water. And 2 plumbers who only use type L. One of which is scheptical on the copper as he has seen so many failures lately due to the water. He recently walked a job where the complex was 7 years old and they are developing pin hole leaks already in type M. They are trying to sue the plumber but he closed shop and disappeared. His concern if type M only lasts 7 be lucky to get 12-15 out of type L.

The water is so bad these days I used a galvanized nipple and it rusted out in 3 years. They switched from Chlorine to chloramine and it is making my plumber buddies ritch. I have debated jumping ship from bathrooms and kitchens to repipes.

My best friend is the manager of Roto Rooter in San Diego. PM me your number, I'll get it to him and have him give you a call. He's a good no BS dude.

Concrete is acidic & eats through copper if it wasn't properly wrapped when installed. If you haven't had leaks above ground, then that is your problem & you only need to re-pipe the underground. Instead of cutting into your slab, just abandon it & pipe it above ground.
