That website doesn't allow hotlinking, and you have to be logged in to see image.

You have to d/l it and then up load it here.

It's weird, sometimes it just shows a thumbnail, and you need to copy and paste the addy into the body of the text, and sometimes it shows the pic full size...

Any ideas on why?

We got real stuck... :D Had the winch out once for myself, four times for others. So muddy and slick that if there was anything off-camber, you just ended up with gravity doing what it do...

It's a great vehicle no doubt. Great versatility - it can do most anything offroad AND get you there in comfort (and at 80MPH) unlike most Jeeps.

I've almost bought an FJ twice but still don't care for the outward visibility, windshield cracking and fender bulge issues.

Is there still talk about Toyota killing the FJ? I hear it every year.

I live right off the trail to Santiago Peak. I've been called up there a few times when some friends got stuck bad. It turns into a very long day, LOL.

...Still fun though.:D Just put one side in a ditch and take a ride...:skull

Wes, whose roof rack is that? Did you set it up to accommodate the Rigid Industries lightbar?

Got a link to your build/mods?

No... I didn't/haven't done a build thread.

It is a Gobi rack and I modded it to fit the Rigid 40", except mine is a Holder... ;)

That has been what I have found...

I've almost bought an FJ twice but still don't care for the outward visibility, windshield cracking and fender bulge issues.

For what it is worth, I beat mine like it owes me money. I wheel it hard and fast in the desert, take it rock crawling and drive it every day to the beach to go surfing. I don't even notice any outward visibility issues (I look forward when I drive... ;) ) and from what I gather, the fender bulge issues (which I don't have) come primarily from jumping your rig. Not to mention, they are in a non-structural area, and are purely cosmetic.

Bottom line, I wouldn't let those criteria make your mind up...

Is there still talk about Toyota killing the FJ? I hear it every year.

Yeah, and every year they make another. I could frankly care less if they kill it. Hell, it would probably raise the value of mine, because Toyota hasn't made a truck like this in a while, and the aftermarket embraced it with open, loving arms... I have never been back to the dealer for anything.

Hey you pro's,

not to jump in on your thread but what air pressure do you run in light climbing, dessert running situations. I have 33x12:50 15's, no bead locks if that matters. Good looking cars guys. 6 more days till fun...... Thanks for the input. :thumbsup

I ran 14 with non-beadlock and 10# with beadlocks now... Try and get air on your ride. If you pop the bead, run a strap around the tire and then air it back up again... I have never popped a bead (knock-knock) yet, LOL.

I bought a set of these. http://www.offroaders.com/tech/air-down.htm

Just adjust them to the right lowered tire pressure. Then just screw them down on your valve stems and your tire air down goes down while you're having a coldy...:champagne:

I would say about the same. I have my Oasis Trailhead Deflators down to about 15 psi for most climbing/mud/rock crawling etc... and I leave them at 32 for desert stuff.

I drive really fast in the desert though, and would rather lose some traction (I usually play in 2WD anyway) than flat a tire or hurt a rim.

Hey Wes, have you owned both a Jeep and a FJ? Just looking for an honest comparison. I own a tj and I am trying to figure out what to add to the fleet. Everyone I talk to has owned one or the other and swears theirs is the best.

Never myself, but I have built half a dozen, put small blocks in two, and have wheeled with and in several very well built ones. My .02 is this... a well built Jeep will out wheel me on the very toughest trails, but mine is a FAR better high speed desert rig. Much nicer to drive day to day, power to tow, higher build quality, resale and overall satisfaction.

Jeeps are great wheelers though, having solid front axles, smaller footprint and body etc... The things that make the FJ so nice in the desert and highways are not surprisingly the things that hold it back on the really gnarly rock crawling. IFS primarily.

If all I was doing was wheeling, like a trailered trail only rig, I would buy an older Rubi someone built. Drive daily, wheel weekends? FJ... twice.

I would buy it again today. First car I have ever said that about.

I am not a hard core trail guy. So it sounds like the way to go would be a
Fj. I plan to keep the tj and add either a jeep or a Fj. Sounds like the fj may be the way to go for a daily driver. I have to say my tj sucks as a daily driver. But the wife likes it so she drives it daily. If sounds like the fj is not giving up much off road capability either. I play in the desert and do some easy trails and that's it. Thanks for the info. :thumbsup

Personal feelings aside, it sounds like you are a perfect candidate for an FJ. Some good desert use, daily driver, easy trails... a stock FJ will work beautifully for you.

All those trails you see me on is with the "Stage 1" Donahoe Racing (now it is Icon) 3.5 lift. There are much crazier things you can do, but really, I am getting that far off road with only a little lift and 33" tires.

All the other stuff on my truck is lights and bumpers. The winch didn't hurt this weekend, but Sidewinder is one of the toughest trails at Corral Canyon, and it gets plenty gnarly.

You may want to drive a JK 2-door and 4-door before you decide. The JK is probably a more fair comparison to a new FJ--more refined and more room than a TJ or even an LJ . ;)

Bronco Peak

I have a little different take of Bronco Peak. :D:D

Coral Canyon is a bitchen place. Every single dent on my Jeep came for one hard day of wheeling a year or so ago.

This picture is running up hill in the same location. I did not really need the winch but I used it to get my door off the rock and try and keep the body damage down.

Wow... didn't know that Bronco Peak was that aggro...

How does it compare with Sidewinder?

Oh... and why does everyone spell it Coral, when it is Corral, with two "r's"

Coral canyon is somewhere in Hawaii, offshore, between reefs I imagine. ;)
