After a 2 year stint due to Covid we are back. This weekend will be be the tenth annual London Bridge Model Boat Clubs round one of NAMBA district 19’s Heat race. Friday is testing and racing will be Saturday and Sunday 8-5 both days. These are gas powered engines that are water cooled and range from stock 26 cc to modified 35 cc. Class will be Cracker Box, Jersey Skiff, Mono, Outrigger Hydro, Classic Thunder Boat, Catamaran and Sport Hydro. The speeds are from 55 mph to 90 mph on a 6 lap oval course with up to 7 boats competing at once per heat race. Come on out and check it out it’s a lot of fun to watch.

I really wish a was going to be in town this weekend. I have never watched the races but have heard all about RC boats for 30 years. My Father in law traveled all over the country back in the day racing nitro RC boats, building motors etc. My wife always talks about how much fun she had as a kid watching the races.

I am a little concerned he’s gonna flip it far from shore so I told him he can’t drive it unless we habe the boat on the Water

Tie a big washer to fishing line. You can throw or cast it out and usually snag the boat to pull it back in.

I was just about to ask if it was self righting. I have the m41 and when you flip it you’re swimming.

not self righting, you can limit turn tightness by programming transmitter multifunction knob.

Tie a tennis ball on a fishing pole.You will get real good at casting over boat and snagging it.

page 26-30 in programming instructions you can also set to beginners mode 1 is how it comes, 2 racing (no reverse) 3 beginners, along with running 7.4 v batteries run half speed.

Sorry I missed this. Ended up at those races 3 separate times...by chance! Always was just an off weekend we'd head down to Havasu. Some of those boats are insanely fast, and some are beautiful too. Very cool.

I used to have a magazine article how they converted it to lithium batteries/ motors.

In the article they painted it orange.

Would a hobby shop do the conversion or is that something you need to do on your own?

Edit: Or am I behind the times and need to get the DCB?

Someone made an outboard boat 10-20 years ago that I really want. I wanna say it was proboat.

Also there was a company called Commander I think that made basically a 90s Colorado river hot boat that looked so cool.

I’m not sure about Tower Hobbies, I have a Hobby Town near me I’ve been going to for years. I bought a ProBoat 36” Vee that is self righting so I can bash it in Havasu or Canyon Lake and not have to worry about it flipping. There is a company called TFL that builds some bad ass Carbon boats some even have scale outboards and out drives and they really aren’t crazy priced for what they are.
