Been looking for something to putt around the neighborhood and maybe a little light off roading. Have seen a lot of 800's for sale, what are the pro's and con's?

I had an 11’ 4 seater:

Cons:
air intake : Polaris put it near the ground to left side. Best and first upgrade was to put a UMP air canister on it and use replaceable filters.

Dash into knee in a crash. I believe @Bpracing1127 ’s Dad (?) tore up his knee cap hitting it. I cut the lower left corner of it off after seeing the pics of the kneecap.

Belt is not easy to change like a 1000, however, they last a long time with less HO/torque.

Small body: I wouldn’t ride in one again being over 6’. My shins used to ache after 30 minutes just like the rhinos, lol.

Pros:
Reliable
Plenty of aftermarket add ons on offer up

If you can deal with the cramped seating, very capable cruiser for what you intend to do with it.

Im gonna agree with this. They are small, but super capable. I had a rzr s when they first came out, and mobbed that thing everywhere.

I bought a 800s for my 11 year old after he graduated from his 170. He now bombs around everywhere we go with the bigger RZRs. To add what everyone else posted, they seem to be pretty reliable if maintained. There is a rear pinion nut problem with the 800 RZRs. Theres ways to fix it on YouTube.

Yes amazingly capable.
I let anyone in camp that want to drive it have at it.
The little Engine that could.

Thanks for your insight, looks like it would work for what we want but I would be concerned of the comfort level especially the knee hitting the dash issue and the tight configuration. I think the smartest thing to do is to go out and try one and see what I think. Are the 1000's larger in regards to cramped seating area?

Yes

I went to a 15’ 1000 non turbo
100% improvement in everything: size, power. Suspension
I think a 1000 non turbo is perfect for the river.

I’m in a 19’ Can am XRS now, overkill for the river but even more room.

I think there are decent priced 1000 non turbos around if you look.

A 1000 is an excellent car for the desert and general use. Lots more space, parts are cheap and plentiful, suspension is better, and plenty of power. For 30-50MPH driving it is perfect.

The turning point for me was trying to keep up with friends (2014) that had a 1000 and 900.
The 800 had to be mobbed hard to keep up with just the dust trail of the other two and this was in Parker , lol.
Put it up for sale the next weekend lol

It’s all good with a 1000 until we hit the big washes and the turbo guys want to go 70.

Other than that, the 1000 keeps up just fine though.

It’s a never ending rise in tech just like cell phones.
My X3 has more than I need for any flat stuff.
I’ve yet to max it out because always have the fam in the car ,lol.
All good, power to spare is always a good thing.
