They "caught" the main booster for the 2nd time. Huge accomplishment. Having the main ship blow up isn't unexpected in this launch. They are pushing the envelope on these test missions.

They did say something about testing the new heat shielding and attempting re-entry at a much steeper angle. So maybe they got what they wanted out of it. I think Musk said he wasn't expecting the ship to come back since they hadn't planned on trying to catch it this time around.
