To set the stage : We have a very large extended family locally , some "think like Us" some are different (Uber liberal woke weirdos) The sender of this message lives in a 2 million dollar custom home , drives two Teslas etc , and makes a decent IT living even in retirement . As a family we typically gift the kids and grand kids , nephews and nieces etc at Christmas (but its not require or even expected ) .... again for the record all the "kids involved here range in age from infants to early teens" No one is poor or needy. Last Nite while at a family dinner I get this text from my Son Josh and later from my Daughter Both were laughing ......

To be honest, we have so many family members and friends with kids, that’s it’s exhausting. I’d rather they don’t buy my kids anything and I don’t want to shop for 20 kids myself.

Because you never buy them anything!
You might be on to something 😂😂 I used to be the black sheep because I always got in trouble and partied way too hard. All my aunts and uncles said I was a bad influence on my cousins. Now I don’t drink and I’m doing ok for myself so they say I think I’m better than everyone… I really don’t care either way but if the shoe fits then do something with your life 🤷‍♂️

GF and I only buy for the Grand Babies. Our 5 adult kids between us, all have good jobs,
and everyone agrees buying gifts is a pain in the ass.

I don't think I have ever bought a gift for my siblings. But I remodeled all there houses for cost and didn't charge for my time. Figure that's better than any shirt or sweater.

My Nieces and Nephews I don't buy them gifts every birthday or Christmas. But I buy them the most memorable toys like dirt bikes when I do.

I don't expect gifts from anyone either. If I want something I buy it.

I don't see where that is in poor taste. Kind of blunt maybe...
Blunt or to the point 🤷
My one brother and I agreed a long time ago no gifts to each other and our kids. Times were tight at the time. Xmas cards were always sent. So no guilt was or whatever was felt or pressure to do something you couldn’t.
We usually break the pact by sending some home baked treats and a gift card or two.

I see zero issue with what was sent to the OP.

Always buy (probably too much) for our kids and grandkids.

It's all about the grandkids.

Everybody else is on their own.

Except my wife, she scored this year.

He could have worded it a little nicer but I’m a fan. I crack up how much we spend on extended family buying things they probably wouldn’t buy themselves. In turn i get things i would never buy myself. I’d cut it to buying for our kids/grand daughter if my wife agreed.
It’s still better than all of us pitching in and buying the boss a present. At least i can just Venmo it now and be done with the check writing.

The unable part is the only lie just say what you mean.

This year I sent a text to my family straight up saying " We are hosting Christmas this year, we are glad to be all able to find time to get together, Don't bring gifts we will not be buying gifts and I don't expect you to. It will be enough to see your smiling faces."

I bought gifts for my family, but we will exchange them when we get together separate from my brothers and their families. I expect my brothers will do the same with their families.

That’s like Toad trying to buy liquor: distract and sneak in the middle what you really want. 😂
