Thanks buzz kill. Now they know your number is real as well as your current state and previous city. Didn't we just have a "Hacked" thread?
So you kept your Nor Cal area phone number. Thanks buzz kill.
Probably a bit more true than wanted.
Why wouldn’t I?So you kept your Nor Cal area phone number.
@rivermobster is this a hacker?
Most people when they leave CA change their license plates and phone number so the new locals don't know where your from. Didn't they tell you that on the Facebook exit page. Why wouldn’t I?
Well fuck. I thought maybe I was gonna get a golfing pal in the spring.Once you replied and confirmed you're actually a human, now you are on a completely different list.
Seemed pretty innocuous at first but now this.

I’m a little slow but maybe starting to get it.So now they have confirmed your phone number and your previous residence.
They will be looking you up on the dark web data bases to figure out how they can use that info.
They will be passing it around on the forums there, just like we pass info around on RDP.
Getting the picture yet??
I’m a little slow but maybe starting to get it.
For an old fucker you seem pretty internet savvy.

Is there anything you’d like to tell usUsually its always a "female" trying to text a male, and its to turn into a Pig Butchering Scam. Soon, she will advise you of Crypto opportunity. Or, they will talk you into sending nudes, and now its a blackmail scam.
Do NOT engage them.

What do you recommend for spam texts? It was pretty brutal during election season and I would not reply, not even with "stop," I would just block the number and delete conversation, but they just kept on coming and coming...
I tried to ignore/block spam calls and that seemed to do nothing, so I started to F with the callers, and that seemed to get me off their lists PDQ...

Susan Smith · 17h · Susan SmithAll things San Marcos, Ca. on Facebook,
**NEW FRAUD/SCAM ALERT** Today my 16 year old son received a call from a guy claiming to be from our bank (USAA), notifying him that his account had been used at a Walmart in MD, and the purchase was flagged as fraudulent. The only reason he picked up is because the caller ID said it was USAA and it was their 800#. They guy said that because he had other fraudulent charges in the past year (he had to get a new card about 5 months ago), they were canceling the card and wanted to collect the physical card to use the chip as part of an investigation. They sent him a text to click and fill out info, but my son didn't know most of it (like his SSN), and the guy said not to worry, just enter 0s. My son didn't enter any info because he was getting suspicious. They guy also told him someone was coming to our house to pick up the card and he should put it in an envelope with his name on it. That really confused my son and made him obviously skeptical so he came to me to ask what to do.
I got on the phone with the guy and asked him to confirm information. I gave him ZERO info. He knew my son's name, our address, and the last four digits of his card...which I realize people can steal from online purchases. I then asked for him to give us his USAA membership # AND HE DID. I looked at the phone number on my son's caller id, and it was the number for our bank. The guy told me someone named "Austin" driving a dark gray Toyota RAV4 with license plate 9HGY060 would be coming by in a few minutes to collect the card.
This guy was CONVINCING...he knew all the info, sounded like a real USAA customer service representative...but I'm not dumb, and I was still skeptical. I kept pushing and asking why he needed the physical card and why we couldn't just destroy it. He said they were partnering with law enforcement to take the card and use the chip to find skimming devices at all the places where my son had used the card in the last 12 months. They'd use it as part of the investigation, but not to worry because they had already canceled the card and ordered a new one, so it couldn't be used for purchases.
As I'm talking to him, I see a guy pull up to our house. The person on the phone said "Austin" was there and I should ask for his id and check the car info before handing over the card. He seemed so trustworthy, but again, I'm still skeptical. I gave the phone back to my son and he told the guy that we were still looking for an envelope while I called USAA on my phone. He put the guy on mute while I called, but he kept asking, "did I lose you? Are you still there? He's still out front ready when you are." My son unmuted and told him, "my mom is on the phone with our bank right now just to double check" AND THE GUY HUNG UP....and the guy out front took off.
My bank was amazing...helped us check his account (which hadn't been compromised) and put an alert on it just in case. Changed all his info and ordered a new card. However, the customer service rep said this is the second call he's gotten like this just this year. He also recommended that we call local authorities since someone showed up at our house. We did call the sheriff but because no money was stolen, they advised us to call FTC because it's a phone scam.(And I will be following up with FTC and FBI as our bank advised us...at least to give them the info including security cam footage to help track these guys down)
Bottom line...this guy was using a caller ID that matches our bank's number...he had information beyond just what my son would use for purchases, so they somehow accessed his account. AND A GUY SHOWED UP AT OUR HOUSE. This is the part that freaks me out. They were here within 10 minutes of my son getting the call. I can see someone easily falling for this, especially if you don't have time to do your research.
I'm attaching a picture of the guy who came to our house. He has a prosthetic leg (right leg) and drives a RAV4 with a huge dent on the right side. I couldn't confirm the license plate number that we were given over the phone because we never went outside, but I'm assuming it's what he told us: 9HGY060
BE ON THE LOOKOUT for scams like this. Your bank will not show up at your house to collect your card. Even if they have all the info and seem to be calling from the right number...always CALL YOUR BANK YOURSELF to confirm.
Stay safe.
