Here’s mike (hammer) me and Ben Kramer’s kid in key west. Looks just like his dad.

I still think Kramer set the hit up.

I got to hang out with a guy at Desert Storm a few years ago. He was Aronow's throttleman. This guy had some stories.

If you ever sit down and get to talk to people that were really around and in the offshore racing scene back then...fuck, crazy times. Spent a lot of times with Craig Barrie over the years, he took cigarette over after dons death an ended up owning it for a short time His wife Lynda was in the office as don left. He got some stories.

There’s a couple really good lengthy documentaries on his death. It’s just like they say in the video, you ask 10 offering people there’s 10 different theories.

He talked about how Aronow hated sail boats. He would buzz them at full speed. Pass with just a few feet between his boat and theirs, or so the story goes.

LOL I believe it. There’s a pretty deep rooted hatred of powerboaters by blowboaters.

I lived a few blocks away from the Candy Cat bar in Chatsworth when the kidnap attempt went down.
Neighbor girl was a bikini dancer there and was involved in it.
Never got the straight story what it was all about beyond that Don and Cole, in the words of the LAPD, were “dirty”.

Funny you mention that. I hang out with an old guy (in his 70's) that says he was a backup throttleman on the Apache at the time, and he has lots of stories too, more than you could make up, and knew Don well. His theory it was the mob. Also, he moved from Florida to CA and was a friend of Jim Coles for a period of time.

Yeah summer evenings at the local Elks they open the outside bar.

It’s like a Cole boats regatta full of people all full of Cole stories.
Stories from hull splashing to DEA association to racing to speculation on the shooting, on and on.

The hull splashing stories are really interesting. Why, how they did it and who’s hulls they splashed. Very tricky methods but very successful results. Evidently they even splashed two hulls into one. The stem from one, the stern from another the tales go.

Cole and Don were/are arguably the most talked about people in the history of performance and recreational boating.

This is RDP. It's a website based on conjecture. Relax. None of us are making a movie or writing for CNN.

I make a simple comment, and now you want to make something out of it .

Time for you to back off homeboy .

I know exactly where I'm at .

I'm very relaxed, and not the one (s) talking shit around here .

Funny, I was at the races in Bay City when the Kramer hit came down, and remember it very vividly. the pits looked like a junk yard as the ocean racers found out what the saginaw bay was all about.

Not defending Ben Kramer. But his main reason for being jailed was marijuana smuggling. It would suck to be in jail on marijuana charges and its now legal across the USA in some form recreational and medical.

I have the boom speed kills. Still haven’t read it.

A buddy of mine that worked for Scotfree films (Ridley Scot) as a producer had the rights for the movie and it would e been done extremely well. They couldn’t get the script right though. Now John travolta is doing a movie. Hope it’s decent.

Many many many boats today stared from splashed hulls and they all started with don.

This is like the Titanic, the Kursk, Hitler, etc... I've always been fascinated and would LOVE to go talk to Ben Kramer even now. I DO know someone who has known Jim Cole, and I've had one of his boats ( 1991 that he actually did) and he says it's not just smoke, especially when you are out west. This is a GREAT thread!!!!
