lately we've noticed when watching movies on either NetFlix or even Prime that the picture quality has dimished to the point of being unwatchable, the picture is so dark that you cant make out what youre watching, it really sucks. Movies like the latest season of Jack Ryan which just came out, terrific btw, we tried watching it last nite and gave up because it was so dark you couldnt see what was happening or who it was happening to.
I have tried to find out whats up but no luck so I thought maybe this forum could help. I called Netflix and they were no help as usual, Ive tried adjusting my TV ( Samsung 70" about 1 year old) settings as suggested to no avail ??
I have given up so Im asking for any guidance any of you guys have, next stop will be the Sound Bank here in Havasu which wont be cheap lol.
Thanks

So this is a "smart" TV with Prime and NetFlix built in or on apps?

How does it work with another source, like a Roku stick or a google chromecast?

If the picture is degrading it’s because the download speed is slowing down for some reason. Netflix etc will actually automatically lower resolution depending on speeds. YouTube does this as well.

TV’s have some built in settings usually you can scroll through. I’d pause the movie in a dark spot and scroll through the presets to see which one lightens it up.

Go into the settings and turn off Ambient Light Detection. That is a feature they added to save power (ECO). That should fix it..

There seems to be a Lot of info on this problem on the interwebs. Here is just one of the many links I found...

I tried my best with most of the suggested remedies but a TV Geek Im not, thats for sure. Some movies are fine, some not, especially the ones made by Netflix. The modern televisions are so much more advance than my ole brain can handle, I went into the settings on it and whoa, too much for me to handle which makes me get irritated, but I tried most of what was suggested plodding thru it.
I appreciate your time and answers thou so thanks to you 👍

If you have a Samsung TV, go into the video settings and change it from Dynamic Picture to Standard Picture. That could stop it from trying to self adjust to video content.

I did just the opposite LOL, I screwed around with the damn thing for hours and finally thought Id try the dynamic setting. It makes the picture very vivid but I turned down the brightness a little and its watchable (Regular TV shows)
It made the one show from Netflix at least watchable so I guess I will live with it but I think Netflix should leave stuff alone, because it is still IMO a very dark dim picture.
Thanks to all that tried to help.

On mine it's settings > expert settings > brightness. Turn that sucker up. Another issue it might be in eco mode. Go to settings > scroll down to general > turn off energy saving.

The most accurate color/picture preset on most modern TVs is Cinema/Film Mode (or equivalent).
