Did any of you see the article about Snake Guns in this months issue of American Rifleman. A 6" blue Python could fetch $18,000.

I have one with the original box and papers but it's been fired.

It is crazy how much Pythons have skyrocketed in value the last few years. What used to be one of my "I'll have one someday in the next few years" guns, is now a "no chance in hell" gun.:(

I bought mine on layaway at a Gemco on Grand & Bell in Phoenix for about $500 in the '80s.

It's hard to find a nice Python with the box and paperwork these days. My stepdad has 3 Pythons in the safe. I've been trying to get him to sell me the 4" blued one he has. The other 2 are 6". He won't sell em though. Lol!

Per serial number looks like it was made in 64, 6inch barrel.

Do you take American Rifleman? If so there's an informative article on Snake guns this month. Do you have the sales receipt also? That makes them fetch top dollar. 6" blue Pythons retailed between $125 and $175 between '60 and '70. You would need a letter of authentication from Colt, I think that's about $250.

I remember yours is unfired but have you ever shot one? Sweet gun!

I bought this one at a gun show in Bozeman, MT. Think I paid around $600 for it 10 years ago. I have another python 6inch barrel manufacture date is 1975 , its been shot but never by me. Wouldn't mins shooting that one either!

I have always been a 1911 man, but I do have a Python in my collection and it is sweet shooting. The way it feels in your hand and the report is awesome. A thrill to shoot.

Not surprising. Most of the guns in our enormous collection were bought at Rock Island Auction Company (http://www.rockislandauction.com) and I've been present at most of the auctions. Personally seen many records set for gun selling prices. It's getting a bit out of control but I'm happy about it as the collection has quadrupled in value.
