Living in Vegas my wife and have noticed how many people walk their dogs on super hot ass asphalt, pavers and such. I mean if I reach down and touch the ground wirh my hand when it's hot out I can literally burn my hand in just a few seconds; I can only imagine the paws of animals! Are there some kind of shoes that people are using for their dogs to protect their feet?

I see people walking their dogs on the street when they could be up on the white concrete and at least cut down the heat a few degrees.

Not dog owners, just concerned animal lovers. Have a great week.

My dogs were raised in the desert, and would seek out the exposed concrete in the middle of the day to sun themselves. Their paw pads were also super thick, probably from all the sun soaked concrete and asphalt.

They do make booties, some are slip on, some strap on, takes the dogs a while to get used to it my dogs have never favored them. I don’t walk them in the hottest part of the day and we don’t walk at all in a super extreme heat but they are somewhat acclimated to the hot temperatures here.
This is my black lab sitting in the sun in 118° heat the pool deck is not cool. She’ll sit out there for 15 or 20 minutes and then she’ll go get in the pool. Don’t know why she does it.🤷‍♀️

My dog used to do that…he’d lay in the dirt at the river right past the shade, and pant like he was dying…then the shade would move and some would get on him, so he’d move back in the sun and continue to pant.

lol

Our dog gets walked before the sun is up high enough to heat the ground. There are instances(car to destination) that I have made her walk on the white painted lines or the shade of the palm tree stump or carried her to safety. I will take my flop off and stand on the ground to test it.
Around the backyard she doesn't seem to be bothered much and knows all the tactics to save her paws. The travertine and turf is usually tolerable for her, even the darker pavers she trots across.
We've tried booties on her but it never lasts long before she's torn them off.

Saw a lot of both, booties and no booties the past several days while in Palm Springs. Also noticed that most with families, strollers, probably day trippers, no booties on dogs of all sizes & not much concern about the hot pavement (no offense meant but I love dogs). The more “seasoned” folks had booties or kept their pups on the shady side of the street, or in a stroller with a fan!!
