This morning I had my appointment for my first PRP injection. The only time I really heard about it is when Kobe Bryant did it in Germany years ago, but I guess it’s normal to have it done now.

It is still extremely painful to turn to the left from my accident.

The doctor drew blood out of my arm, then put the blood in a machine. The red and white blood cells separated and the plasma was on top. He only syringed out the plasma. He told me to hold still as where he was going to insert the needle was in a tricky place. I got nervous thinking he’s going to screw up! He pinched my skin, and injected it. It burned a bit, your skin bubbles up and you massage it around. I should feel a difference by the weekend. I was able function normally all day.

Anyone else done this and have had success?

I've done several treatments. it worked great in my elbow (hyper extended it). After 3 treatments, one with steroids, and 8 weeks of PT I recovered great. Then I had my shoulders done. After 4 treatments and several months, I saw some improvement in one, none in the other. it does seem to be hit and miss based on where the injury is and the type from the stories I've heard and my own experience.

I have 2 tendons torn in my left shoulder and 5 tears in the rotator cuff. I was referred to a sports specialist for the same treatment but was told my insurance wouldn't pay for it. The specialist told me that there was a 50/50 chance it would help but tendons are the hardest to try and heal. The shots would be over 10k.
Shoulder replacement and 1 year recovery is the other option. I haven't been able to find anyone that did the shots to repair the shoulder tendon and I dont have time for a year to recover from shoulder replacement right now so I'm living with it.
Anybody here have any 1st hand experience with either one on a shoulder?

I had it done on my elbow.
My wife had it done on a broken wrist.

It absolutely works to hasten healing, at least for us.
And it cost nowhere near $10k despite the fact my insurance paid.

Yea. I have had a couple other peeps tell me they did it for like 2500.00 per injection. My specialist told me that because mine was to try and repair 2 torn tendons it would take 4 to 6 injections and have a steroid added to each injection too so maybe that is why it was 10k.

I have a torn labrum in my right shoulder...but my left shoulder actually hurts more.

I have had PRP in both 3 times, and it works great. I think it was $500 or $600 for both shoulders.

Cortison (or steroids) are injected in there to reduce swelling in a specific area. You are only supposed to have 3 in a calendar year so be careful.

But, PRP works and I would imagine you could lean on your insurance to pick up with tab since this is an actual injury.

I don't know why, but that weirds me the hell out. Take your blood out, separate it, and put some of it back in. Ugh.
Me too. I guess the hillbilly in me has always said that if something was supposed to be inside me then it would have been put there in the 1st place. I do enough harmful things on my own. Today's drugs have side effects that are worst than what the drugs are supposed to be curing.

The specialist had a "Billing Company" contact me and say that the insurance couldn't deny paying for this and they wanted me to sign " A Full Power of Attorney " over to them so they could negotiate on my behalf with my insurance company. They also went on to say that they would settle for whatever they were able to negotiate with my insurance company even if it was nothing and would consider it as paid in full. They said they did this by inflating the costs to 2 or 3 times the actual charges and then they negotiated down from there. The whole deal seemed un-ethical and shady to me and with them having a full power of attorney on me so I asked them, What was to keep them from just taking the money from one of my bank accounts? They claimed they would never do that and I asked them if they would put all of that in writing and they claimed that wasn't part of their process so I told them, No Thank You!

That was actually why I was ok with this procedure. It was my own blood. I’m not a big fan of just shooting my pain away with other medications. I figured if it’s my own blood, it can’t be that bad. They don’t insert anything into it, just spin it to separate the layers.

I’m not sure how much it costs, but I don’t think this doctor charged anywhere near 10k.

I’m just hoping this works. It sucks driving with neck pain!

Just curious, but how is this supposed to work. I mean it's already in the areas they are injecting it.

I’m still confused by it a bit, but here’s the picture I keep referring to when people ask. The plasma platelets are suppose to help heal the area. My blood was taken from my arm, and the plasma only was inserted in my neck. So I’m assuming, the more platelets, the better?

Yes he is!!! He specializes in Orthopedic injections, I just took a cortisone in my knee from him did not feel anything!! But like all the good ones he is quitting too much BS with the Insurance co's...He also is a strong believer in CBD for relief and healing...just saying...
