STU 33’s on a 17” Price design wheel. Pretty pricey set up, but that’s what I would do.

Why do people run smoothies on the front of side x sides? Is there a reason other than looks? Seems like a waste of all wheel drive.
I asked one guy and he said, "you only need two wheel drive with paddles." I didn't waste anymore breath on him.

Pretty much with paddles dont need front wheels under power, 2WD makes it easier to slide around too

All the sand rails you see in the dunes are all rear wheel drive they have no problems and if you get stuck its driver error. And BTW the smooth front tires reduce the sand kicked up and blasting the car

In 4 wheel drive the front tires just dig a hole for the rear tires to fall into.

I have 2 pro R’s and have ran 2 different set ups. I tried a 32” skat with 10 paddle talons and it was good but I’d like a 13-14 paddle talon or 12 paddle demon. I also have tried the 33” skat in a 14 paddle demon and it seemed like too much paddle. I currently have a set of 33” 12 paddle demons on order I think that will be the sweet set up.

Are you really using 4wd with paddles?

You would be surprised the amount of grip the buffed front tires will get in 4WD. I am not the expert everyone on here is but I can tell you I have experience. There is a reason that guys with buffed front tires put the car in 2WD when they want to drift the rear around. Next time you are in the dunes try drifting the rear end around in 4WD then try it in 2WD. You will notice the difference in grip. Not saying sliding can't be done in 4WD, just that's its easier when the from buffed tires are not pulling the car. Buffed fronts do get some grip. As said earlier, SKATS for the win.

You have to.

SxS's were not built for the sand. The power to weight ratio is unacceptable for the sand. And yeah, I've been in one in the sand. We tried it in 2wd and it wouldn't get out of its own way. My friend sold it a few weeks after that trip.

All that being said ...

You'll see shit tons of em out on the dunes. You'll also see em changing out busted belts on a regular basis. They blow the belts in a few weeks time, if they are lucky. My crew with SxS's will go years without changing a belt.

SxS's don't do well in the sand. They are freaking Awesome in the open desert though. 👍🏼👍🏼

The higher HP Turbo units ones are ok in the sand. They can get up and go nicely. The NA units are barely adequate and will get you where you want to go but have to wring the things neck to do it. This causes higher belt temps.

The higher power turbo units actually do better with belt life than the lower power cars in the dunes.

I ran mine in 4wd in the sand. It was absolutely faster with more control.
