Two thoughts…..

I bet that was a fukking long drive.
If there is something seriously wrong you’ll be thankful it saved your motor.

Do you have a programmer on it? I limped mine once by towing on level 3, if you don't turn the programmer down to the recommended level you will limp the tranny...

Let me guess, you bought diesel at Super Fuels? :hmm

I have been buying Diesel at super fuels for years. Had 200k on my old truck and have yet to see any problems with the new one either.

Don't feel too bad. My truck has left me on the side of the road 4x in the past 2 years. It has also spent over 60 days in the shop since I have owned it. I FINALLY got Ford to realize that there is a problem and they are just now replacing the turbo. They kept saying that there were no symptoms that they could duplicate and since the truck never threw codes, they couldn't confirm that there was a problem. So, evertime I tried to tow to the river, expect to do 35mph going up the grades WITHOUT A BOAT. With a boat, it wouldn't make it.

I told Ford that they have two choices, buy the truck back from me or to be prepared to start dealing with my attorney.

I've gotten 2 bad batches of fuel from them. Both times my fuel filter had less than 5k on them so I know its not that.

I had a dmax with about 26k on it. 3 different times i started it and it would just die. I had it towed in 2 of those times and chevy said there was nothing wrong. I got rid of it cause i didnt want to be stuck somewhere.

Ditto. Filled up at Superfuels in Parker on the way home last trip and got as far as Rice Road and 29 Palms cut off before the truck went into a limp mode. I was able to go 2000 rpms (50 mph) all the way to the 10 fwy. I got towed home the rest of the way. Changed my fuel filter and put in new fuel every couple of days and the check engine light and limp mode disappeared immediately. If you read alot of the diesel forums, the guys carry an extra fuel filter just for that.

Funny, I just had to help a friend yesterday after his Ford went into limp mode. We went golfing first, and then delt with the truck after so that we didnt miss our tee times! He should have bought a Dodge!

My dad's dmax did the a similar thing on the way to Nacimiento. Limped like the last 10 miles into town. Turns out one injector wire was just a tad bit too short and pulled off. There is a TSB about it. They replaced the wire with a newer one that was 1 inch longer and it has had NO problems ever since.

how fast were you going when it went into limp home mode?

the two number one cuases of probs with trucks( any make) you fooked with it( IE chip, aftermarket parts)and you could not keep your foot out of it. Most people do both... :D

Had the same thing happen to mine and have had no problems since either (knock wood). 3.5 years and 60,000 miles.

Dmaxes Rock, its when people start adding huge power to them is when the problems apper, which has noting to do with them being a good truck.
If you just use them as intended with the factory programming they are a great engine.:)
