Residents are hooking up generators but idk how long you could or would want to live like that.

The power shut down includes surrounding sewer stations as well. Edison and the city of RPV is telling residents to not use running water as it could cause a “sewage spill”.

All of them should be moving out, that hill has been sliding forever know at least 30 years, and there is no fix. Edison has been putting a band aid on that whole area ever year or so because of movement.

It's not fed up, the movement has become pretty significant over the last year, I'm shocked they let them stay this long

They’ve had above ground pipes there for as long as I can remember…but recent events and investigation has determined the slide situation is considerable more severe than previously thought.

I don’t think they’re ever gonna be habitable again.

No idea…above my paygrade.

But, with companies dropping customers in areas with trees. I can’t imagine a scenario where they would insure anyone in an area where the land has been sliding into the ocean for 30+ years

Worked for the city for a bit in 2002ish.
The land slide is 160' deep. The sewer lines come above ground every few hundred feet with unions to allow for the movement. There has been a mandatorium for years before I got there of no new homes or additions. They have torn down quite a few homes before they went over the cliff. PV drive gets moved in that area every 5-7 years and repaired just about every year. Usually makes for a good jump, i have video of sending the city truck a good 20-30' somewhere, always an off camber landing so pretty sketch

The now trump golf course lost the 18th hole over the cliff down to the ocean before he bought it. The retaining walls for some of the water features are insane. The one that you drive your cart behind the waterfall has 2 tie-backs 100' back to the 50'T and are 5'x5' wide and tall

They took Wayfarers chapel down known as the glass church. Been to a few weddings there. My Buddies house is a stone throw up the hill from it on Narcissa. I remodeled the house a few years ago. He wanted to ad a pool but they wouldn't issue a permit. Not sure what he is going to do. Lots of nice homes in the area. His home is valued at 3 million.

Last year or year prior a few houses were lost to a water issue underground. Homeowners insurance didn't cover those. They didn't have flood insurance.

I do recall going to the rifle range one day where they still were using M-14's and looking down range over and past the target berm there were boats passing by.

Yup, I remember even 30 years ago you had to drive on PV South with caution, especially if you drove it on an irregular basis (like I did). It was like whoa, where did that whoop dee doo come from.

I feel bad for all those peeps, that area seems like a paradise. I imagine no HO for the majority of them, and the City/County can't do anything.

The absolute "Coolest" electrical installation I've ever had the pleasure to lay my eyes on was inside the old 14" and 16" gun batteries above Fort MacArthur.
All of it multiple stacked layers of 1/4" by 2" wide polished copper bus bar on insulated stand-offs mounted on floor to ceiling polished granite backboards.
All the switching was huge open knife switches, like a Tesla or Dr. Frankenstein movie. Everything precisely labeled and any actual insulated control wiring bundles were hand wrapped with hand tied knots and varnished thread.
All this to provide electrical to operate a gun(s) that could hit Catalina Island. I only wish the guns had still been there.
Over the years as a civilian I've run electrical inside every old artillery battery at Point Loma, but those are in use for building extremely secured hi-tec projects and everybody is dressed in white suits and appearances suggest they're aliens from Area 31.

I did some cool work at the old Nike Missile Control building on Fort Mac. The outward appearance gave no hint the walls were several feet thick and housed folks living and sleeping there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
While we were doing the new backup generator controls they had a crew refreshing the engine. It was the first and only time I've seen a guy climb out of a cylinder using an extension ladder.
Unfortunately I had to return to Germany before I was able to witness them starting it.

I just hope those folks living there were able to collect insurance compensation at some point, I'm guessing with the loss of gas, power and subsequent water/sewer use, the city will red tag and condemn the homes. Bummer but they had to see this come for awhile now as sad as it is.

It's a historical landmark, they are dismantling it and are looking for a new location to rebuild it

Well that round was a waste of money. Marine layer was so damn thick you could literally not see your ball 20 yards after it left your t shot. Didn't start clearing till about the 13th hole. Didn't lose a ball which as unbelievable, hit it down the pipe on most and if I didn't it was off the fairway before it got swallowed by the trees. On the way out of PV South, Lomita Sheriff Dept. was everywhere guarding all of the entrances to the slide neighbor hoods, Especially to go up the back gate to Vanderlips. I believe back in around 1969 '70 it was wide open and we'd go up there and play hide and seek with our cars. Before you knew it, they constructed that archway and they put a security gate with key card to open the gate, I think they did that before I graduated. News vans were also on the way out there.

we (malcolm drilling) are working there right now with dewatering efforts to save the homes. We started there about a month or 2 ago so it’s a fairly new effort. Some of our guys have been pulling 16+ hour shifts daily. I was called on an emergency last Thursday at 9pm to drive there (I live in corona lol)
As we were told insurance company’s canceled those homes YEARS ago too.

I’ve been working up there for the past month. When they shut off the gas all the homes started calling to set up propane at there home. I’ve set a bunch of residential tanks up there this month and now more calls have come in for homeowners wanting tanks for back up generators. It’s insane the amount of land movement they have up there. The amount of money people have put into their homes to try and save them is insane. Structural lifting and fixes ect. I’m hoping those homes don’t end up in the ocean but it’s not looking good. Here’s a home up there that was one of the craziest I saw. Supposedly the owner put around $250k into lifting and setting it so it’s livable, the wife walked in it for 5 minutes and said she wouldn’t live there. I don’t blame her, ain’t no way myself or my family would be sleeping in this house
