...was just, meh...in my opinion. Fish boats and wake board boats in every expo hall. A few cruisers from Carver, Sea Ray and the like but not one performance boat. Not one from any of the top three west coast premier performance boat manufacturers, Nordic, Eliminator or Tahiti. In that order. Not one. That’s why I say, meh.

Back in the day, OCM would have a couple three go fast boats on display. It wasn’t til recent that I learned those display boats were stolen. But it was still nice to see some HOT performance boats at the show.

I digress. I suppose you could call these performance boats.

This was awesome. It’s called the Water Woody. Its an all wood live aboard barge

Just above the anchor it the boarding platform when beached. The only stateroom is forward and has an access door to the bow for setting anchor and such. Also in this picture are the two people whom built the boat. The guy(just behind his girl) said he built two of these, side by side, over three years.

The helm is very minimal. No gauges anywhere for the two 15hp propane powered Lehr outboards. I think the guy was telling me that this particular boat was 90% complete. Just a side note here. You gotta be over 6 feet tall to stand at the wheel. There is a door to port to allow for easy line handling around the dock.

That is a tiny wood burning stove. The only heat source for the entire vessel. There’s also 30 amp shore power, a propane stove, ice box and dinette across from galley. Really nice.

The master stateroom forward has a, I wanna say, queen foam mattress and easy standup headroom for peeps over 6 feet tall. A full length hanging locker is to starboard.

The flooring in the head is $30 dollars in pennies under many layers of lamination. The detail in this boat was phenomenal. all the coin were heads up. No shower in the head. Just as well, liveaboards would rather use the marina facilities.

The builder made good use of materials. The sliding door aft is supported on like a barn door rail. Very nice. The steps up to top allow for access to what the builder says is used for kayak and SUP storage. He did tell me that he’s had 8 people on the roof once but because there aren’t any rails or lifelines, he says it’s best used for water toy storage.

A Duffy. I asked if it was layed up by Hallett. They had no idea what I was talking bout. They said the hulls are manufactured in Newport CA. This was the 22 footer. Very Roomy, I thought. With all the background banners, tents and people, it is difficult to see the Duffy interior but the thing is a slow moving drinking vessel. So fun.

These steps were pretty aggressive on this Cutwater.

I maybe spent an hour looking for something that I’d like to have one day but I suppose the Havasu boat is the best venue for performance boats.

Although the "Water Woody" is interesting. It plays out like Homer Simpson was part of the design crew. :p
Thanks for sharing.
Your description of the show sounds vaguely familiar to the Chicago boat show.:(

PDX boat show has sucked for years now. Very few of us performance guys around here. My daughter works for Active Water Sports, so she’s working the show, which means I get free passes. I’ll waddle through it one evening this week just to laugh at the prices, and drink a few overpriced beers.

What’s somewhat odd, is that on any given nice Sunday, there’s probably 20-30 performance boats anchored at the island on the Columbia, Spooled Up lives on the Columbia just across from PDX, and there is a pretty good flow of nice performance boats making their way up here from the South, but this area continues to get no recognition from the big name guys as a possible market.

You roll one tilt trailer cat and one nice “affordable” level cat into the PDX show, and it would be the most attended booth at the show!
