So I have the old school DE filter grids. I was wondering this morning if they make a conversion kit to change to a cartridge system. Sure seems like they would. Any insights to this?

Ya you buy a cartridge filter and throw away your DE filter. Converted, your welcome lol

no conversion kits for existing tank swaps that Iv ever seen

bulkheads are different locations, inlets and outlets are reversed

internal piping different

manifolds different

no backwash valves on cartridge

the list goes on

It would need a different contraption that sits in the filter tank bottom to replace the old one so water is diverted into the cartridges. Right now it has the one that runs ports to the 8 or so grids

mash on it

I'm curious as to why a conversion away from DE?
A properly set up DE system will filter down to 1/2 a micron, and even tighter.
I have no idea what a cartridge is rated at. Likely 10 microns or more/larger?
Filtration ability vs. convince?

Do they still make DE systems? One of my houses has DE the other is cartridge. A lot easier to clean. DE just makes a mess of my gutters and a pain in the ass all around. Don’t know the difference in particle cleaning between the 2 or if it really matters.

I’m well aware what it needs, to clarify, No, there is no “conversion kits”. Parts to convert would literally cost same or more than new filter.

As far as microns, de does not go down to 1/2 micron, typically at best 5 microns, cartridge is 20 microns = water clarity diff between the 2 would require a microscope to see.

I agree DE is messy and many cities will not allow in sewer or gutters. cartridge filters are just easier in every way.
Yes they still make new DE filters, parts for filters, and DE, they’re just sold 1 for every 25+ cartridge filter

I am not a fan of the cartridge systems. Take a long time to wash out the filters and stupid expensive to replace the cartridges that go bad. I will stick to my sand filters and back wash once a month and be happy.
