There has to be some under table $$ handoffs. The Fairplex is the only thing worth a crap in that town. The drag strip, swap meet and fair are defining events, take those away and Pomona just becomes another crap hole southern California town that no one will care to think about. Why would the city want to take away the town character and make it just another apartment complex and retail center.

I think this little snippet says it all... The kickbacks will be huge.

Since more than 95 percent of Fairplex is within Pomona city limits, the city is the lead permitting agency.

Thinking of all the "Iconic" Dragstrips and Boat Drag Facilities that were once such a "California Experience" and are now gone, I am happy for the Memories of The Winternationals but so disappointed that for the Sake Of Progress will soon be No More.

Predicting a huge increase in added freeway congestion on the 57, 210, 10...etc., etc. freeways and side roads.

You left out the most important part. It's gonna take a decade for this to happen...

The fairgrounds redevelopment would require an environmental review and the approval of a specific plan, or land-use plan for zoning future development.

I have often wondered with Such a limited race schedule how can the raceway make money. Too many days empty.

The way I hear it, the grounds is so saturated with oil, leaded gasoline, and nitro meth from all the years of motorsport that it is toxic. I cant imagine them building human dwellings on top of that toxic mess. think about all the recently unhomelessed people and their dogs you could make sick with all those free radicals!

They’re not dependent on the NHRA races although they’re massive cash cows twice a year. They have shows and exhibits going on in the exhibit halls damn near every day. A lot of Hollywood movie stuff gets filmed there too.

Maybe with an all electric NHRA the city might reconsider

Would seem that the Los Angeles County Fair Association (LACFA), may have lost their lease or ??
These plans are certainly counter intuitive to their Mission Statement of the association itself.
Since LA County was deeded 421 of the 427 acres in trade for the long term lease, this is LA County's vision
not the Fairplex non-profit association.

I said this would happen in another thread a year or two ago…..Way too much money for politicians and developers to resist.

Pomona was a really nice town at one point with Genetal Dynamics and some movie stars calling it home. And then the watts riots happened and low income housing. Guess what happened to Pomona. It turned into shit hole central. They will never learn.

You would be correct Wicky.
As a kid watched the whole city go to shit year after year once the invasion started. Even In and Out had to shut down.
