Beerrun and I have been talking about a possible vacation get together for the RDP members.

Right now I just want to see how much interest there would be in the following scenarios. Rather than do a poll, just respond with your thoughts. If this is not for you, that’s great,…….. There’s no need to be negative.

Scenario #1

Booking a 1 week cruise from February 8th thru 16th Or 17th.

There are multiple cruise ships that have February 9th as a day at sea. February 9th is the 2025 Super Bowl. The cruise lines I have looked at, will have the game on at all venues. Outdoor movie screens, theater, bars. Along with Super Bowl type food being served at those venues. It would be a fun way to see the game. This last December I watched several games on the outdoor movie screen on the cruise I went on. It was like watching the game at the Drive-In. But better!

The cruise doesn’t have to be for Super Bowl week, but I had to start somewhere. lol

Depending on which itineraries, I can most likely arrange some pretty good shore excursions for us. I can easily get a boat or boats for our group in Tortola, St Thomas, St Marteen. In Antigua, I have access to a very nice 55’ sailboat.

The hardest part of the above is picking the right ship. For instance, the new Icon of the Seas is a possibility. It has Feb 9th at sea. You would have the experience of being on the Worlds Largest Cruise Ship. It has 40 bars and restaurants. Just imagine the Pub Crawl we could do.

If that’s too over the top, the Celebrity Apex has a much more adult crowd. But I am not liking their itinerary as much as others.

On the cruise scenario, for those that come 1 day early, we will spend the day before the cruise, cruising the intracoastal around FTL. I can get whatever boat fits our group.

On the cruise scenario, the costs for a cabin start at around $700 to $900 per person for the cheapest cabin. Airfare to FLL or MIA. Then your other typical vacation costs.

Scenario #2

A group vacation in The Abacos (Bahamas). This would be May, June, or July. The optimum time to go to The Abacos.

This would consist of doing multiple VRBO’s on either Green Turtle Cay or Elbow Cay. We would rent boats for the group. We would also be boating over from Florida with boats too. We would also rent multiple golf carts for bar cruising, restaurants, and exploring.

Highlights of this trip would be doing the pig roast at Nippers Bar on Great Guana Cay on Sunday. Swimming with the pigs. Boating to the most beautiful places in the Sea of Abaco, the bay between Scotland Cay and Great Guana Cay is my favorite spot of all my boating travels. It is jaw dropping beautiful and great place to spend the day. Every day it would be a different place by boat, with a complete golf cart convoy each evening. Lots to do. Exploring the islands is fun!

The Abacos are not as expensive as it sounds. Especially when done with a group. If a 4 seat golf cart is $40 per day, then it’s only $10 per person per day. If a 10 passenger boat is $300 per day, that means it’s only $30 per day, per person. The expensive stuff is beer and food. We can off set some of those costs by bringing a shit ton of beer from Florida. Boneless rib eyes can be cut into steaks for bbqing. Just remember, there is a limit to how much stuff I can load into my boat or boats in Florida. It is a 180 mile boat ride.

Airfare from SoFlo into the Abacos is around $500 per person. If we had enough people, we could do a private charter. It’s not as expensive as it sounds. There are multiple services that offer these flights.

***************

The above is basically and idea in the works. Now I just want to see if there would be any interest and how much? The more interest, the cheaper the costs get.

Beerrun and I are looking forward to your comments.

We like option #2 but are good with the cruise if that's what everyone else wants to do. The thing with the cruise is its not till 2025 so if you booked now we would have a year to pay for it. So we are all in and a day on the water with C-YA is a good time

The Abacos!!!! Hell yeah!! ❤️

If you've never been there, you don't know what you're missing!! It's an AMAZING place in the Bahamas and a place everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime. We enjoy Treasure Cay which is just southwest of Green Turtle, and we have stayed there in the past. Unfortunately, TC was destroyed during the hurricane and has had a difficult time rebuilding. Green Turtle fared well and is mostly intact.

I don't know if we can make this trip, but I'll check and see. If anyone has a doubt about The Bahamas or GTC, you HAVE to try and make it!!

Nippers is AMAZING and I was so happy to hear they rebuilt after the storm.

These were taken at the OG Nippers before the storm and the remodel. This was the pig roast brunch on Sunday which is awesome!! People from all of the surrounding islands come here on Sundays. It's such an amazing location!!

My biggest problem is we don’t really have anyone to watch our kids right now.. :(. I am not 100% sure what I am going to do for the Miami boat show and it’s in 2 weeks..

I’d love to check out the Icon. We did Allure a few years ago and loved it. We love cruises and would definitely be due for another one by then.

Something to consider.

Option #1 is the least risk, as far as weather. The cruise goes regardless.

Option #2 is risky because all sorts of things can come into play regarding weather. The Weather window for the boats leaving Florida is a concern. A freak out of season storm could wreak havoc. In 2011 we experienced Tropical Storm Brett while staying on Great Guana Cay. My wife and I still talk about the insane boat ride we took from Guana to Treasure Cay, in the middle of the storm. We had a plane to catch, and had no place to stay if we did not make it to the airport. It forced us to make a bad decision. lol Our wet luggage became so heavy, we had to give away half our belongings at the airport, in order to make weight for take off.

I think the cruise is the easiest. Fly in spend the night get on the boat. And you can make payments on the cruise for like the next 10mos if your not a baller flying private like Dave 😁😁😁

What a story!! For those who haven't been, Treasure Cay airport is LEGIT! 🤣

Great Guana Cay is beautiful and I love how isolated it is. Pulling up to the cove, anchoring in the shallows and wading up to the beach.... Then, hopping in the pool before walking up the golf cart path to the pier house.... Guana Cay Dive Center which I believe is no longer there..... then up the path to Nippers.

If I EVER come into a large sum of money, I will be buying a house in Treasure Cay. The beach there is unlike any other I've ever been to!

Piping hot duff and cinnamon rolls in the mornings from Cafe La Florence, fresh-caught conch salad for lunch.....seafood and steaks for dinner.....

What a place!!

Well, I have been on 40+ cruises. So I prefer that option. I don't care on the date, but would prefer Princess due to being at top rewards level with them.

With that said, Icon would be a likely NO for me..... I don't care for that many people. But, when the time comes and the ship, date are picked. I will decide.

We‘ve been looking at travel options for next January/February, so the cruise option would work great for us. The Icon of the Seas will have a ton of people on it! For what it’s worth, we really enjoyed the Celebrity ship we were on a couple months ago - not too crowded and only a few kids on board.

So talking with C-YA this morning I think option 2 would be a nightmare for him to organize. So I'm thinking a cruise is simple let's pick a date pick a boat and let's meet at the bar😎

Yep, that would work. We did it with 20 of us last year. We're going on this cruise, these dates, be there or be square!! Worked great.

So here is a possible cruise below……..

Here is the good…….

The itinerary gives us 3 great boating days. I will set up a boat for us to use in each port. I have an international license and I have done this already in the past.. (St Maarten is the most strict. No license, no boat.)

We are in St Thomas from 11:30am to 7pm. This gives us plenty of time to hit The Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke. A quick snorkel at Sandy Cay. And (jokingly) a risky run to The Willy T on Norman Island. (Risky, because of time.) We will need transportation to and from Red Hook Marina, on St Thomas.

On St Maarten, we will be boating all day. We will go thru Simpson Bay heading for Pinel Island Beach. We will hang here. It’s a great beach bar. Afterwards we will cruise Orient Beach.(bring the binoculars, it’s a nudist beach. lol). On the way back to the ship, we will stop in Grand Case Bay and watch the planes come in for a landing, right above our heads. We will be able to walk from cruise ship, to the dock in which I will get our boat or boats.

In Antigua, we will go sailing for the day out of Jolly Harbor Marina. I have access to a 55’ sailboat. It’s a monohull that the owner uses for amature sailing races. I forget the brand. lol

It will be easy to remember when we have to be back at the ship each day. “We have to be back at ship by dark” lol. At that time of year, sunset is between 5:30 and 6.

There are 2 stops on the itinerary that I could care less about. Both are on Hispaniola. But, since we are in a group, maybe we can make something good out of it!

My main concern about this possible cruise is that it is 9 days. So know this. The FTL cruise port is right next to the airport. You can easily make an early morning flight by notifying the cruise line, and they will give you priority debarkation. You will be back west before noon. (with time difference). This cruise is actually cheaper than most 7 day cruises I looked at.

What date works for you?

Maybe, we could find a cruise in which those going on cruise could also attend the boat show at either the beginning or end of cruise?

Nothing is in stone. Right now we are exploring the possibilities.

May or early June if possible.
My only concern about May or June is that is right in the middle of boating season for those that live in the West.

I am not sure if more people would be willing to go during boating season? Or in the winter? Hopefully that question will be answered in this thread.

There are also Theme cruises that we could possibly tag along with. There are multiple Theme Cruises to do with music. Rock n Roll Cruises, Flower Power, Country, and 80’s music. Heck, the even have Nude cruises. lol (I did a google search for theme cruises) The Culinary Cruise looked like a great way to gain some weight! Again, there are a lot of options.
