I used to just google "Lunar Calendar" and one of the links would pop up that showed the phases of the moon, but most importantly the time it rose / set and the illumination of it.

I can't find that website to save my life right now.

I'm looking for Friday / Saturday nights (preferrably) over the next couple of months with the brightest moon that rises sometime in the late afternoon and sets mid morning (preferrably again).

What nights would be the best night for me to run up there?

Help?

Boy I'd like to make it to this one as we had to leave early last year as we had the grand kids with us. Just pulled out as RD's pontoon barge was pulling in. It was an interesting ride back to the Channel to say the least as my lighting wasn't near what I thought it was and even though a full moon it was still a bit dark for me. Ran up on the sand bar real fast and backed off for a bit after that close call. Have since bought some LED light-bars that will suction cup to the bow area if ever in that situation again. My buddy and his wife left alone around 11pm and he said he had a hell of a time getting home. Now I know it's best to stick with the crowd and leave the kids at home next time. :D

Well I'm no moon expert but it looks to me like the prime dates off the charts (bear in mind it doesn't have to be a perfect full moon.. We just care about illumination #'s and rise / set times.. If it's in the middle of the sky around midnight is what I usually go for.

So it looks like these would be my three night runs this summer.

In astronomy, the meridian is the great circle passing through the celestial poles, the zenith, and the nadir of an observer's location. Consequently, it contains also the horizon's north and south points, and it is perpendicular to the celestial equator and horizon.

Now can you explain that in common language. Something we all can understand, Mr Google :)

Night boating is some of the most fun I have had on the water. Coming back to Sugar Barge Resort from my uncles place in Discovery Bay. Navigating the delta with a cigarette lighter spotlight is something I will never forget.

Meridian Passage - Think of it as when the celestial body (in this case the moon) crosses over your line of longitude. Longitude being those lines that run north and south.

Time of Meridian Passage will also be the time the body reaches greatest altitude as it passes by your location. (It's highest point in the sky)

It’s one of my favorite things to do. That said it can also be dangerous as shit if ya don’t know what you are doing.

Yup night boating is my absolute favorite thing to do. Haven’t done it in quite some time though. Last time I was out on the water at night was heading home and almost broadsided a wakeboard boat that was floating with no lights on they were in a dark part of the river. I see idiots floating all the time with no lights on past our house. And have actually witnessed and accident similar to the one I was almost in. Just takes all the enjoyment out of it for me having to worry about some dip shot who thinks it’s a good idea to be floating in their boat at night with lights off.

When I head out at night boating, I always plan that there is someone or something out there that wants to kill you. And then stay hyper vigilant.
On that last run at Parker, there was a flat black toon wrapped in blue lights. No really. It was hard to figure out what that was. If seen from any distance you would think it was a dock.
Topock on a full moon sounds absolutely incredible. I've always wanted to go down there and spend the whole night there. but I imagine it's pretty bad for bugs in there

Closest thing to night boating I have done is going from the channel to the Marina at night. Sounds like a good time and going with experienced people helps.

Any hints/tips/gear that you would recommend be thrown in the boat?

Some big spot/flood lights in case you get separated from the crowd is all I can say...it's pretty dark even with a full moon.

A throttle restrictor.. If you are going any faster than idle on the way back you are taking your life and those in the boat in your own hands. Going fast at night, it is not "if" it is "when" you will crash.

Well Dave? Let loose with those dates so I can plan! :)
