Great to see what comes out of the woodwork in Craigslist during the Barrett Jackson

What makes it a p.i.t.a. is seeing where they're all from. True, a lot get yanked out locally, but a lot of ads show up from the Vegas or LA area as well. My neighbor was hoping to have his 64 vette ready to sell, but won't make it.

Prices get all screwed up this time of year. People see a perfect bronco go for 60k and think their rusted out shit box is worth 45K. They don’t understand that the bronco at Barrett had wilwood brakes, coyote crate motor, AC, custom interior etc etc.

Broncos can have huge rust problems, particularly the front inner fenders and core support sheetmetal.

I watched the BJ Mohegan auction, and it appears that prices are trending more towards reality. I saw quite a few vehicles that sold for $15-$30 thousand less than the restoration cost.

My two years of working in the race and restoration shop of a wealthy Dallas oilman were a real eye opener. I saw first hand how slow and expensive the complete restoration of a vehicle can be. For example, the rebuild and restoration of the rear end and suspension of a certain 1962 Ferrari he owned cost over $50K.

Having Ferrari Classiche travel to Texas from Italy to survey the car and certify it suitable for racing involved the X-ray of frame sections, careful measurements, and NDT of engine components. It cost well over $100K to perform the certification.

CRITERIA OF AUTHENTICITY
Only fully functional cars receive the Ferrari Certificate of Authenticity, because to ensure the vehicle’s conformity to the original design – and therefore maximum driving safety – all parts need to be authentic. Chassis, engine, gearbox and transmission, suspension, brakes, wheels and bodywork, interior, everything is rigorously examined by the experts in the Ferrari Classiche workshop. This is a team of specialists par excellence, with deep knowledge of the car because of their extensive experience at Ferrari, possibly also including first hand involvement in the construction of the vehicle under examination.

The passion and the mastery of Ferrari Classiche personnel are the very best guarantee for the customer.

That level of restoration is unusual in the car world, unless you're talking about rare and expensive vehicles. This Daimler Double Six 50 Sport Corsica Drophead Coupe won Best of Show at Pebble Beach in 2006. It was restored from a dusty and piecemeal existence in a European barn, and the restoration cost must have easily exceeded $2 million. The owner had come in second at the Concours a couple of times, and with this car he was determined to win. It was restored at the Canadian shop owned by Rob Myers of RM/Sotheby Auctions fame.

I love it when looking to buy classics and the owner tells you it is an $X valued car when restored like it is a selling point. Then you look at it you agree with him 100% knowing it will cost you $X plus 20K to restore it and walk away.

I like the Power Wagon. For once it looks like a vehicle with paint in that condition hasn't been shot with clear to "preserve" the patina. That is a totally stupid thing to do IMO.
