Epic!

We stayed at Aminpori (sp?)

Did a ferry ride to outer island for a few nights in a hut on the beach on the island the movie Beaches was filmed on - before the movie. Now its a big tourist trap and over run. But the island s in that area are where old James bond movies were filmed.

It's been a few years since we were there but we loved it.

Pucket was not overly impressive to me the beaches had a lot of debris and I mean trash like plastic bottles but the food was fabulous.

go to Racha island for the day. They take you on a 36 foot boat to the island there’s no airport there and no other way to get there there’s a significantly large public beach white sand with food and beer it’s an amazing place. They have one hotel they Allen is probably not a half a mile around. Super clean.

The public beach is on the left of the main photo.

Since we are on Asia, let me add to this for others. Skip Thailand. Cool place, but much like Hawaii, not as clean.

I travel to Asia twice a year for business and pleasure.
Suggestions;

Fly using Singapore Airlines from LAX, NON stop to Singapore, premium economy is fine, 200 movies on a 13" screen food and booze NON STOP. Bring a bottle, 1 per person in Indonesia, booze is expensive by the bottle.

Connect to Bali, stay here; https://www.ayana.com/bali/rimba-jimbaran

You have 96 acres, maybe 200 rooms, I like Rimba section, in the trees. Private beaches, CLEAN, great food, rooms from $200 a night, transportation, close to surfing areas, 2 hours to rain forest with river rafting. A Forbes 5 Star resort, one of just 22 IN THE WORLD. Many other sport to experience. PM if you plan on traveling to Bali. Cabanas are free on the 1000' private beach with service, beer is $1.50.

Do not stay at the hotels in town by the beach, just another Hawaii, Maui like. Those with a family can stay just up the hill at a 3 bedroom hotel, kitchen, private pool just for your place, two story, for about $250 per night! Hire a driver with a car/SUV, for about $11 per hour! We went surfing all day, just $60 for 2 boards.

On the way back, stop at Singapore for 2 nights, an amazing place, great shopping from all of asia in the bazzar area. Westin is amazing with a 80' breakfast area, if you are Marriott Platinum or above, free.

Agree, it's not a pristine beach experience like it was years ago, kinda rough, out islands are ok, the city itself is a bit sleazy, think fat european dudes in speedos on a sex vacation

Been there twice but both times in my early 20’s and came in from a large, gray government owned bote anchored offshore. I don’t think my experiences/recommendations are what you’d be looking for!

Thailand was a lot of fun, I did not make it over to Phuket, but I was on the other side of the bay there in Ao Nang. I dont know know type of vacation you're after, but I pretty much traveled every day by motorcycle and really explored. The people are super nice and friendly, but I did personally like staying OUT of the tourist areas. It just was not for me, but if you're looking for a resort type situation, you're stuck in the tourist areas.

I will say though, if I was going to to the resort thing, the Ritz Carlton just north of Ao Nang looked awesome, and the prices were surprisingly not all that bad for a Ritz i guess. But I guess you gotta compare that to the local prices, where you can get a killer room at a very nice place for $30 USD a night.

.

This X 2.
We (wife and 2 kids) spent 6 weeks in Thailand in 2014.
It is an awesome place to visit.
If you can, skip Bankok and Phuket unless your looking looking for 5 star McResorts.

We spent about 10 days in and around Ao Nang as well as some time in Chaing Mai, Chaing Rai, Koh Samui and Koh Pen Yang, mostly in VRBO houses and B&B's.
People are very friendly, food is freaking awesome ... even the street food (a few rules to follow).
Like sintax, we rented scooters and explored a ton of places.
I highly recommend it......just don't say bad things about the King.

I got a couple buddies that live there. But Im not too sure you will want the same experience that they are having. One thing they told me, be polite to the lady boys. They will kill you.

I’ve been twice, its fun with a nice mix of everything, nightlife, beaches, etc. I stayed in Patong pretty much in the center of everything because I was looking to party, Kata is a little slower paced and just down the road. I’ve been a lot of places in Asia and Thailand is hard to beat.

Say whaaaaa???

Thailand has transvestite prostitutes called Lady Boys. It can be hard to tell them from regular ladies...………………………

The flight is too long for me now. If I want an Asian experience, I just go to Richmond here. 60% Asian immigrant by population there.

I stayed at Patong Beach, it is a smaller, quieter less active area... But close to the enough to the Hardrock, nightlife and several shopping areas

We rented scooters (if you dare) and head to the shopping areas up the coast,

Gotta dos:

Giant Buddah, Phi Phi islands, snorkling (sort of), James Bond Island, Phuket FantaSea (ladyboy show)

Be careful of the ladyboys, dont walk the alleys alone, you'll start to question your sexuality..lol

Ride the tuk tuks, tours were very reasonable, massage VERY cheap!, food was incredible, plenty of small non-advertised attractions along the rodeside as well.. just go with it, have fun and stop where something catches you interest...

Dont get the money or anything with the kings image wet

The locals were very nice to Mericans
