When I had my toon in the Marina I saw this little Boston Whaler, and I was thinking “man what a perfect boat for the kids”. If I left it in the marina they could catch a ride down after school and have fun, go fishing etc..

I went and priced a new one and it was 😳 not to mention none available.

We are out shooting a boat this am and on the way home there it is..

I’m not really in the best spot to buy right now because I have some major bills I gotta pay next week.. but damn I want this thing.

I’ve been wanting something like this but a little larger for up there also to fish etc. There is one down at the springs in a slip I always keep an eye on hoping for a for sale sign but hasn’t happened yet.

Definitely an unsinkable boat. I have a few buddies on Arrowhead who keep them around for their kids. They stay on the lake year round, fill up with rain, snow and never completely submerge. Pump the fucker out and go on your merry way.

That bote brings back memories as a kid. It was a friends (parents) tender and as young boys would use it for fishing outside HH (like at ~12 years old, ha ha). It was center set up and we’d take that to the tri-rigs, flats, and even Catalina. Retrospect, that’s was just NUTZ!!!!

@RiverDave . . . If / when you get serious about pulling the trigger on a little Whaler for the kids, hit me up.
I've got a lot of good info on them that may help a little bit.
Pro's vs Con's , what to look for, & what to stay away from.
Just throwing it out there. 🤙

The 130's are super popular back in HI, they handle rough water extremely well for their size. He's not crazy on price. Not in the spot to do it right now but if I was for $20k it would be hooked to the truck. New they are spendy

Jeff was trying to talk me into it also. It's a cool boat. Our neighbor here in the park has one, but it's a couple of years older.

It’s a 2020?
I'm not sure what year it is. It's not very old, but it's not a 2020. It was his tender for his sailboat. Did you see the video from Newport Harbor where the stolen boat drives up onto a sailboat? That was our neighbor's sailboat until about 6 weeks ago. He sold the boat, kept the tender.

Funny story. We would fish in LB breakwater to catch mackerel for chum the first weekend. Pack those up and put them in blender. Freeze a cube, and go fishing the next weekend for sharks. Biggest blue shark population was between HH and Catalina (Have no idea if That’s true). Anyhow, drop the frozen cube off the the of that 13 1/2 whaler in a bucket with holes and wait With the chum line. Blues abundant, but mako was the the goal. Too the story... No makos hitting but plenty of blues. We decide to pack up. At this time we were probably in 8th grade… so a couple times out. Leaving and packing up, the gaff gets kicked and ends up in my friends shin. Everybody freezes. They all tell ME to take it out. Well shit, okay. Cut 5he skin or pull it out? Pull it out and little blood. He almost faints, but recovers. All good. We’re sort of in panic mode as we’re leaving to get back to HH. Not more than a minute later we see a 10+ foot plus Mako on the surface. fin and tail showing. Shit! Kid just got gaff’s but…. He man’d up and said get it! We’ll we did try, but no luck. We made it back. He got a couple of stitches. Memories.

Boston Whalers are great boats. No doubt. Especially the one you are looking at.

However, if safety is a priority……… here is a safe kids boat. If they run into another boat with the boat below, it most likely won’t damage that boat. It also keeps from wasting space with fenders too! No prop to injure others with. Reverse seating on stern for the observer. (pulling without an observer is not against the law where I live) Bimini Top is an option.

There are multiple sizes of this type of tender. I just looked for the model that was most similar to the Whaler.

One last thing to think about…….. when your daughter gets older, do really want her boyfriend to “Nail Her in the Whaler?” I am being funny!

Back In Jr. high, a friend of a friend's parent's had a house in channel island harbor with a 55' side tied at the house and two whalers- an 11-13? and a Montauk 17. I got invited a couple weekends and the adventures on those little boats we had were priceless. Tow in's like we were Buzzy Kerbox but at Mandalay and the shores, shark hunting with .22 and .17 at the oil platforms, taking the 17' to Mar Meadows, trolling for skank we barely knew what to do about 😍 . Another local kid who was older but literally only 15, had use of a 30' sportfisher that we took out around the harbor only at night for lobster ..... or chicks and he could handle it like a boss the way his Dad taught him . Start em young

ever think about a Livingston for small water use/fishing?

The guy that bought my old house has one for sale…pilot house, new transom, not a cream puff, but solid boat. I’ll try and get more pictures if anyone is interested.
