Partial wrap..

Soo… We towed the new to us boat (a Fountain (that weighs 13,000 lbs wet with the trailer) from Arizona’s to Cali to have some work done on it a couple of weeks ago. Our V10 gas Dually struggled a bit on some of the steapper grades getting it here. As a result, we ended up purchasing another truck to replace it and the smaller truck we own. Got rid of the smaller one and am currently selling the Dually. Really only need one anyway to tow the boat.

I thought it might be cool to add a wrap on the new truck that kind of matches the boat but is a little understated.

Any thoughts? The pic is a rendering that they are applying next week. I ordered a nice matching shell (and bed rug) as well so it will look slightly different when done.

A question though, wouldn't it be better to tow that heavy of a load with a long bed truck? Doesn't increased wheelbase lead to better stability and fhe tow weight is less likely to push it around?

I thought long and hard about this. The Denali regular bed (which I bought and has a 6’9” bed) has almost 100% more HP and torque (just shy of 500 HP and 1,000 lbs of torque) than the old Dually and is rated for 18,500 lbs bumper towing. Coupled with the two optional tow packages, it just seemed like the better truck.The plus is it’s a 3/4 ton so it rides a bit smoother as well. As a result, I did not think a long bed was necessary. The plus is that it’s a bit shorter so it’s easier in terms of total lenght when towing.

Also, with the logo, as stated already it could look like a commercial vehicle.
so if you drive in CA, best to add, private vehicle, not for hire.

It’s a great boat and our 2nd Fountain over the years. It’s a bit older (2007) since we really couldn’t justify or even afford something newer. While it is also quite a bit of work in terms of clean up, launching, towing long distances, etc. (at least for me in my mid 60s) it’s definitely worth the effort. It’s likely the last big boat I’ll ever have.

Probably worth noting that I had it extensively looked at pre-purchase. Compression check (and general mechanical review at a top notch shop), full survey and sea trial. Fountains (at least in my opinion) are more prone to transome/stringer/bulkhead rot than other brands so soundings and thermo imaging are important as well.

For 30 years that is what I’ve always done. Thought I would try something a little different this time.

Since it’s a wrap, if it grows old on me, I can always remove it.

42'? We could get you a skier for the CSR in a heartbeat. Beautiful boat. For towing, the short wheelbase will be fine 99% of the time. If you ever get into a situation where you have to maneuver quickly, long wheelbase is king.

I think the truck would look great if you just brought some of the color and style from the boat onto the truck and forget about the big logo. just my .02

I've seen this with race teams chase trucks. Maybe match the graphics of the boat and just the logo, not the name?

Thank you all for commenting. Looks like I’ve got a mixed bag of opinions.

The thought of advertising the brand had not occurred to me. I just thought it would be cool to tie the truck to the boat in some fashion since it will be used for towing it 95 plus percent of the time.

I liked the idea of wrapping the shell in some fashion in lieu however, it’s an A.R.E. that I ordered yesterday and the lead time for it is upwards of 3 months.

I also liked the idea of perhaps using just the logo.

The wrap is not extremely expensive (3 figures plus tax for both sides) so I’m going to let it ride. Later, I may change it up along the lines discussed here.

I’d tie the graphics together IMO. The Fountain Logo makes it look like a company vehicle rather than an accompanying vehicle if that makes sense?

For better or worse, it’s a done deal. Ended up going a little smaller and 20% brighter after looking at several on truck mock up pieces. Once the new matching white shell (with tinted flush mounted windows) is on, it should visually tone it down a bit more.

Regardless, I truly feel George at GT-Printing went above and beyond.

Funny you should say that. George suggested that (it would allow a slightly bigger size as well) however, my thought was if the wrap grows old on me for some reason and I take it off, the lettering is the only thing that breaks up the white slab of a door.

Good point. If that was the case then George could probably make a pretty nice 3D replica of the badging.
l’m a fan of the debadging for cleaning and polishing purposes.
