Last night, sausage and peppers sounded good for dinner tonight. Took a package of Italian sausage out of the freezer and set it on the counter to start the defrost cycle then was supposed to put it in the fridge at bed time...

Forgot to and found it out this morning at 6am. I threw it in the fridge for the day. Was 63* in the house this morning.

Cook it or pitch it?

Is the sausage pre-cooked? If not pre-cooked I'd pitch it. If its already been cooked I'd still eat.

Do a quick cost/benefit analysis.

Cost of sausage
vs.
amount of money you would pay a genie to wave a magic wand and make your food poisoning go away * probability of getting sick

My math:
$5.00
vs.:
$2000 * 0.01 = $20

Your numbers may very.

Carl Becki and I defrost overnight all the time, no problem, if it smells then pitch it if not all good.

Why?

You have never left anything out overnight to defrost? Let alone his home was at 67, your over-reacting.

No issue. Cook it. I've been in and around the food business all my life and as you describe the time it was out and that it started out frozen, no issue.

The voice of reason! Bacteria begins to grow & only so much will be killed during cooking.
Toss it, not worth the pain & suffering, yours and others:yikes

You ask for advice here? I'd eat it. Why is your house 63?:D And, why don't alt codes work on a Mac? No degree symbol sucks!

House was 63* because I'm too cheap to heat it for the 20 minutes that I'm out of bed and on the way out the door...the MAC question had me thinking MAC and cheese therefore the degree symbol had me stumped.
