Hey RDP,

So I purchased my first new to be boat. I do not have anything for it besides ice chests lol. It is a 24 foot V hull. I am looking for ropes, buoys, anchors (thinking box and slide), spare prop holder, life vests (thinking the cheap orange ones to just meet requirements), throwable, flag, and probably a lot of other shit I am missing.

I am looking for suggestions on any of the above items. Also, if you have suggestions on other things I should be adding to the list (Tow boat USA) lol.

Thanks!

They are Lines--not ropes. (jus busting your chops)

Top Knot

Highly recommend.
I use 5/8th lines for my 24'
My Fender Lines are 5or6'
Dock Lines are 15' I think
Shore Spike Line is 25 or 35'
Anchor Line is 100'

I mostly use my medium size box anchor (no chain) and Shore Spike. If I am somewhere with fast current--point bow towards current and use Large Box up front and Medium Box for aft.

Also pick up a Danik Hook for each Anchor of Shore Spike Line.

Oh--and congrats on the new float. Do we need to ask why there are no pics with your post?

Fire Extinguisher. Most likely will need a new one.
Whistle. Ok to get air horn but also get whistle for when your air horn goes out and your on the water.
I would pass on the extra prop--but do get a prop wrench.
Extra drain plugs and at least 1 if not 2 extra adjustable wrench's that stay in boat at all times.
I have a 6pack of orange vests just to make sure im always legal.
Small to medium sized mesh laundry bag--for Slippa's. That way they not tucked under every bench, in every cubby and flying out the boat. Put in ski locker or under seat. You can dunk in water to get all slippa's clean before you bring on board. (Pro tip--get another one to use as trash bag for beer/soda cans.)

You can probably score some good end of summer sales right now at Overton's for life jackets.

Go take a safe boating course. In most states they're required anyway.

"life vests (thinking the cheap orange ones to just meet requirements)"

What other things in your life, that could actually SAVE it, do you apply the same standards to? Cheapest tires for your vehicles? Cheapest brake job? Cheapest engine service?

People won't wear the cheap orange Type II lifejackets. Even non-swimmers, although they would probably wear a Type III Ski jacket.

As I said above, TAKE A SAFE BOATING COURSE! If you don't, please let me know when and where you're going out.

Some great tips on here already. Break it up into a few areas:
- Docking: Anchor, Spike, Dock, Throwable. Lines, Fenders, and a heavy thing.
- Safety: Vests, Extinguisher, Whistle/Horn, First Aid Kit, Tow Rope.
- Mechanical: Basic Tool Box, Jump Pack 😬, Sea Tow
- Misc: Noodles/Floats, Extra sunglasses/flip flops, Blue Tooth speaker, soft side cooler, Phone Chargers, Shade.

Don’t assume the seller did anything they said. Replace the impeller, fluids, check trailer (bearings, brakes, tires). Especially if you’re towing long distances.

danik hooks are sweet to have with your anchors.

Some sort of basic tool kit.

I like to have a small amount of electrical wire fuel tubing with some extra hose clamps.

Chairs and something to float on

Small tub that you can set on shore to wash your feet off before getting back on.

Zip ties and bungies come in handy.

YESSSS STRIPPERS are always a great edition to any boat.

Is the general consensus that’s it’s better to bring your own STRIPPERS, or should we be looking to acquire some once underway?

You can overcome almost any problem with a cooler full of beer……

Seriously, lots of water in case you’re stuck. A small tool kit with connectors. First aid kit. Phone charger. That’s about all I pack on my boats. 🤷🏼‍♂️

What do you do when you dock/beach? When we started boating it was in Blythe. The people we went with said to just bring a sand spike. Worked great until we switched to Needles. No fenders/dock lines to tie off at old Topock. Then a trip to Desert Storm made me realize i needed an anchor/chain and decent amount of rope.

I guess I assumed everyone carries an anchor, sand spike and extra ropes?? I have four dock lines. A long line to tow. A box anchor and a couple fenders in every boat I own. Well maybe not in my 10’r, but that boat has a paddle

I use my Costco Visa for fuel as much as I can. Gets you an additional 4% cash back regardless or where you purchase fuel.
Between the truck and the boat it adds up at the end of the year.
I use my Costco Citibank Visa when I purchase Diesel from Sams Club in Fountain Valley. I just smile.

all good advice here so far. I would add a "rescue" style knife. Many times thru the years we need to cut something that a standard blade could not get thru.

Check Costco for life jackets, in store they are probably sold out, but they should be available online. Bass pro has some reasonably priced jackets that I carry as extras so I have enough on board if we are carrying guests.

Lines, fenders, etc, you can find on Amazon in a variety of colors to match your boat.

In addition to some of the stuff listed here, I always like to have a set of boat towels that are color matched and stay on the boat for covering seats, etc.

When I go to Havasu or somewhere that I plan on beaching the boat and hanging on shore, I also carry a set of low profile folding chairs that fit in the storage under the hatch and a small 10x10 harbor freight ez-up canopy.

I have a milk crate also under the hatch that holds a pair of fenders, fluids, and a hot sauce detail kit with some microfibers and a roll of shop towels.

Thanks for all of the responses. I am adding to the list. We ended up with a Laveycraft 24 Nuera.

For a box anchor what weight do you guys recommend?
Does any one have a link to a sand spike anchor with a T on the top (handle bars)? I have used one a few times and really liked it.

The next question is what cleaning products? Looking for a few products at the moment.
1) remove water spots
2) wax exterior
3) interior cleaner

I am familiar with detailing cars. Is the same wax typically used or a marine wax? Drop some knowledge on me!

You're gonna get a million different answers for this.

But my favorite interior cleaner/protector is this stuff from 303, and the Meguiars Cleaner Wax
Can get both on Amazon. I use 10 different spray wax for quick dustoff and Hot Sauce at end of day for water spots

Follow up questinos.

What size prop wrench do I need? It is a Bravo 1
Does anyone know what size drain plug for a Lavey craft? Are they universal?

1 1/16" deep socket for the prop nut.
Should be 1/2" NPT assuming it has a threaded drain. That is generally the industry standard.

I’d go with the large box anchor if you can fit it in the boat. They’re a pain but it’s better than messing with one all day.

Tough to beat an old school spike. They may not be pretty but they work.

Cleaners:
- Vinyl 303 is the best once you’ve got the vinyl dialed in.
- 3M marine wax is really good. Pick based on how much scrubbing you need to do
- Boat Candy speed gloss or hot sauce are my go to on detailers

I only have a 6pack of orange vests (comes in a zippered storage bag) for legalities.
All my PAX have "ski vests" -- but in odd chance we pick up someone or a jacket gets lost--we have these to avoid a ticket.
I agree--no one will want to wear this longer than they have to.
In 15 years--these vests have only been out of the case once--and it was some USCG who wanted to count how many life vests I had, even though we were all wearing vests already. It was just our family on the boat.

don't forget the snacks!

View attachment 1418957

Love the Cheetos and Nacho Cheese Doritos but those are BANNED on my boats ever since I had a bag of Nacho Cheese spit out on my Vector and it turned my light grey carpet to ORANGE. Never could get it all out 😁 o_O

We go thru a lot of cut up watermelon and Red Vines licorice these days....and water and Gatorade
My days of 12 Coors Lights on the boat are long over.

Seeing pictures of the boat would make a big difference on the recommendations of outfitting your new float !!!🤔
