How does that hull handle the chop?
Seriously, not in salesman terms...is that tunnel hull like a nice V?
It can't pack air like a cat, can it?

Ive always loved those Stilettos. A friend of mine used to have one. Cant remember the motor he had but the thing ran pretty well and rode super nice through the chop. Aired out pretty damn well too. I think they are GREAT all around boats. Esp, the open bow like this beautiful example here.

Rides great, but best when it comes from customer or someone neutral. I get compliments on its ride all the time! thanks post 7

Is that faster than the 496ho ..... lighter?

Merc says package is about 170lbs lighter, almost same hp, (we have one in our 26 wildcat demo, when it was cool, it ran 70+ in a 26 deck, runs the wildcat mid 60's during the hot summer months, still not bad for a 26 deck, small block, hitting mid sixties! Heard Merc had removed the headers and now has 25 HP less:( but it's still about 4 to 5 k less than the HO package!

I think the best and most affordable way to go fast on a stiletto is a 383 stroker 350 HP , 4K less than the 383SS 400HP wait one season, then look into a Whipple or pro charger, should get you into the 80 range for a lot less?

Or my favorite, a large rubber band, stolen from the toy airplane technology, self winding, less moving parts....:party2:

OK Bob has told me in the past, hull is set up to handle 525 no problem, also have heard of many peps putting crazy HP in them, bob's told me way over 100, but I will ask him in the AM, also if someone was interested in mega HP and going fast, i personally wold sit down with Gary Lynch, as we are doing now on a 1086 HP Wildcat, and customize the layup. Not saying its not good, but with big HP, makes sense to plan it out. Will try and get some real numbers from Bob in the AM and post, so don't be a "quoting" me for now!:D

For the record, a freind of mine has had a 21 open bow Cheetah for about 10 years. We had a lot of good times on that boat with no issues. Talk about run hard and put away wet, this boat was the poster child for abused boats.

What's the length of that boat from nose to the bottom of the transom?

How would you compare the handling characteristics of that hull to a Stoker 22.4?

Can you build it with a regular deck?

Thanks

What would that boat run price wise with the 383 SS?

Just found out that the one my buddy had Bob build for him had the 496 MAG HO in it. Open bow walk through with some pretty nice blue tribal-like flames. I think 4 of us in, full of gas, in about 2' chop when it was still pretty new, we ran right at 75 on GPS.

My opinion, The Stileto is one of the best all around boats out there in the price range.

Just to keep everyone happy here, i'll pm you, thanks Kevin:D

You can say the price.. Board politics are funny business. LOL

If you post a build thread, and someone asks a price, it's ok to answer the question and share the information with the board as someone else is drawing the information out of you

If you post a thread and announce the price, then it becomes spam.. LOL Because you are "pushing" the information, instead of sharing it.. (make sense?)

Internet is kinda funny like that..

Bob said for the warranty (10 years) it is rated for HO power, and yes we are getting 75-80's reported on just HO. But a lot of peps put blowers or higher HP aftermarket motors and do fine, it just voids your hull warranty if not layed up for your personal HP. For warranty to remain in place with lager than HO power, we need to determine HP and increase lay up, depending on your power, to ensure factory warranty remains, Bob said for "big" power , generally charges 1k more, not bad.

As far as numbers, Bob said he built one for a guy in Tucson, with large blower motor, runs 127 mph on GPS, another local is reporting 118mph to Bob.

If i go over 60, get slapped or dirty looks, so... it a mood point for me:thumbsdown

Do you think the 383 stroker with 400hp would run as fast - or maybe faster - than the 496 Mag HO?

How fast do you think this stroker combo would go?
And who builds these engines for you?
What kind of engine warranty?

What's your favorite color?
Favorite number?
How many fingers am I holding up :D
(Sorry for all the questions)

I think he's talking about the Mercruiser Scorpion engines. The 383SS is a Scorpion Stroker.I helped a friend put one in his 24 foot Rinker cuddy this spring. He replaced his worn out 454 with it. Now he has a 24 foot cuddy that runs over 60mph...on GPS. :D

Only downside I saw with it was that you have to run 92 octane.

I thought that, too, but I'm pretty sure they stopped making it a while back.
It's no longer listed on their site, and everything I find is for remanufactured engines...?

This is the one he is talking about.

http://sites.mercurymarine.com/portal/page?_pageid=33,69423&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL

I called and talked to Kevin about it last week, but to be honest I think for the money the standard stroker at 350HP is the way to go. Which is this one.

Although what you really want is the 525 with an ITS sportsman drive.:D:D

Still a merc motor with awrc warranty. They takemall the way down put forged pistons in them etc.. Then put them back together. I'd take the 6000 rpm / 400 horse reman'd motor over the 350 mag. Just my .02

Yeah, but those engines are all reman's...

They don't sound like such a bad idea though...from the site:

"Get a full one-year warranty for all Mercury Remanufactured engines and components. Our warranty provides unparalleled convenience. Should you ever need warranty assistance simply visit any authorized Mercury dealer for full coverage of parts and labor."

Would you take the 383SS over the 496HO? Just wondering if the HO is worth the additional $3K?

Still have not got an answer from our merc rep, those stainless steel headers on the SS factory are sweet, the SS revs higher and sounds Kinda like an outboard taking off with that high rpm! but... our SS is in the 26 wildcat, 14 hours on demo, ss went into shop with a fuel injection problem:cry: But once all the bugs are worked out, I think it is truly a great HO replacement option, especially in the Stiletto! and smaller boats HO package is getting ridiculous, bad economy, so.. merc raises our prices??

Come on some one step up to this!

Agree, 383 350 HP with the Bravo 1 best bang for buck! wait one season, then Whipple it!!! just let us know prior, thats is your plan! not sure HP but 450-500? sure someone else knows, going to give Dustin a call, pick his Brains, see if any one has pro charged or whippled the Merc 357 325 HP also, I get that package for almost $2500 less than the 383 (357 325HP), so might be worth looking into it for some inexpensive safe HP? I donoo? :D

We have a 377 Scorpion in my boat, and I've been pretty happy with it. :) I think the weight savings are worth the torque trade off between those two. Now between that and an Ilmore or something I'd take the ilmore. ;)

Something to be said for the small block though is it is shorter then a big block which will = a little more interior room.

the HO package is actually 8K more than 383 350HP 4K more than the 400SS

But for you, we will throw in the 1K!!!

From what I'm told, the only thing re-manufactured is the block, all new parts! 383's 357's. Can extend factory warranty up to 3 years! All backed by Merc!

Yeah, I almost got through middle school, missed the whole math thing? LOL:grumble:

what kinda pistons are in that?

In the Mag they are forged, in the old MPI's they are cast if memory serves..

is that what you were asking? In the 383 stroker deal they are forged.. If that's what you were asking.

Good point with the weight savings and the smaller dimensions! Just keeping my options open for when/if the insurance co EVER get back to me!

Same warranty as Dave said I don't see one problem with them. With the machining and testing Merc does they are just as good as new in my eyes.:thumbsup
