Took a drive a few hours from Vegas last weekend up to the Pahranagat Refuge. Amazingly beautiful with nobody there. I have said, 45min out from Vegas is the mark where people just don't get out any further.

Anyways I won't bore you with our hike (we did about 7 miles this day) but I will bore you with crazy petroglyphs we got to see.

There are literally 100s of them around here with the Pahranagat Man being the most famous. The photo is of the biggest one but it is carved into multiple other places. Looks like a damn alien to me but who knows right? There is also stuff that really doesn't look like anything organic the indians were drawing (spaeships?l Good imagination or fookin' aliens!? You decide. (I like saying "fookin' aliens" for some darn reason).

Either way, an amazing place with tons of neat natural history. Plus at 3500 feet, I was in a t-shirt all day. Got to love that SoCal...errr SoNev weather

I love that little area, the wife and I walked around a couple years ago. We didn't see the petroglyphs though.

We did stop at lower lake and had lunch by the water. It was nice and quiet even on a holiday weekend.

If you make it up there again, there is a beautiful visitors center too. The couple working in there were awesome. They were from Idaho, and they live out of their trailer and dually diesel truck. They volunteer for 6 months at parks like this across the country full time! Their next big stop is the Florida Keys for 6 months. How cool!

Had to spring or summer; much greener. Beautiful for sure and so peaceful. We actually hiked from the visitor's center through the outlying hills to the upper refuge and back so the mix of country varied quite a bit. It was so nice.

Seems like we kind of enjoy that type of stuff...I'm not much into hiking, but showing my wife what Nevada has to offer is a blast. We'll just randomly load up the car and take off somewhere, sometimes a day trip, sometimes grab a random hotel room and come home the next day.

She's been asking to do another one, but work has been kind of crazy lately.

Did you stop in Alamo and see the white bus?

Haha no, but that is cool ( I had to look it up). I'm no tin foil hat wearer but after seeing the petroglyphs of the alien, it being so close to area 51; who fricken knows about life on other planets?

That would be awesome! My travel schedule is getting crazy for about 6 months but I'm still off weekends so we will definitely take day and overnighters.

Pardon my ignorance, but are they just dug in the dirt or is that some sort of rock bed? If it is dirt, I would think it would have been eroded away many years ago?

As far as the authenticity of the Mohave Twins. I personally doubt the age, but with there being more along the river, l don't know. I agree with you, with all the monsoons over the years they would be unrecognizable. But it is there, I've seen it with my own eyes
