Thanks for the response. I should've researched life vest styles a little more before posting the question. I edited the original post. Looking for a orange type 3 vest.

More the style that lake lice wear with straps and clips instead of a zipper. Orange, so you can be seen in the water.

So do you want it for jet skiing or for crash protection in your boat? If it’s the latter don’t bother, jet ski vests typically rip off at high speed impact or come up over the arms since they don’t have leg straps. I’ve crashed a few boats, if it’s protection from that you are looking for spend the money and get a lifeline.

And yet

Lifeline isn’t uscg legal or approved.

Mustang Survial is the very best. I would get one and have someone sow up some leg retention straps or just wear a float jacket. Hard to loose that lol

No boat racing here. Just a river cruiser. Just looking for something comfortable but something that can be seen in the water, and seen when it needs to be seen. Gonna be hard to spot a dark color vest in in dark blue water.

Doesn't matter if it's legal or not, you can still wear it. As long as you have the required equipment in the boat.

My lifeline I wore when I raced doesn't have a uscg rating and no it didn't bother me.

And it doesn’t bother you they don’t have the rating. It goes to me.

They are each custom made for racing applications. Each one is certified independently. They won’t ever have a CG rating unless they mass produce a basic style which isn’t their business model.

Pretty impressive operation if you’ve ever been to their Parker facility.

This topic came up a while back. It is a very valid concern. Most CG approved vests on our boats and PWCs are either black or very dark gray. They are often difficult to see. I'm actually surprised USCG approves them. I intend to replace all of ours before next season with something more visible. We don't tend to boat at night. But, if we did I would make sure our vests also had reflective tape on them. PMLs would be a bit of overkill. But, they are available for individual vests. They would also be good if you did night boating.

And BTW, the USCG ratings are crap. Almost none of the standard USCG approved vests actually float a lifeless body face up. The infant vests are even worse. If you dont believe me, watch some independent tests. Pretty eye opening.

Mustang is the best period. I know people that are or were alive because of their products in Alaska.

I have no reference to their product or knowledge of them. Just referring to the USCG approval and that it really doesn't mean all that much.

You understand there are three ratings of vests. I suggest you look them up. Bar none the best in the world. People that work on water for a living including military pilots are issued them for a reason.

That's because the Type III that is in common use isn't rated to turn over the wearer and keep them face up. The Type I PFD is.

Type I – Inherently buoyant recommended uses and features:
Intended Use:
When cruising, racing and fishing offshore , or when boating alone, or in stormy conditions.

Minimum Buoyancy:
22 lbs. for adults. (11 lbs. for child size)

Additional Information:
Best for open, rough or remote water where rescue may be slow to arrive. Will turn MOST unconscious wearers face-up in water.

Offers the best protection, but is somewhat bulky and uncomfortable. Does the best job of retaining body heat, as it has additional foam and fabric, and keeps your head higher above water.
