I have it, on an IPAD that does not have cellular. However I bluetooth connect it to my I Phone hotspot.
With that, I am not very happy with how well it tracks.

I think I need to get a Blue Tooth GPS antenna, and it should work alot better.

I'm just getting started using it. So far it's been great, but only been out once with it. No idea about the waterways, not enough use yet.

I use it for offroad, work well for me especially once you learn how to create offline maps....but not sure how it would work for waterways?

I also have just started using it. I was in williams for the car show and did some offroading while there. It worked pretty even though I didn't download any maps, will need to learn more about downloaded maps.

I have used it for Mexico. I used my I phone. I bought the Antenna for a just in case. I never needed it. We apple car played it to the truck. It worked great. Super user friendly. We were in a pretty basic truck so not super highspeed.

OnX works off the gps on your phone. If you download the area you are going to be in, it works very well on designated tracks. Once you have downloaded your area you do not need a cellualar signal. I have not used it on the water. It is a really nice app. They have a lot of youtube videos on its use.
