The wife and I were talking about that, we were married on November 12th 1977, we saw them at the Oakland Coliseum at Day On The Green July 2nd 1977. I was 21 she was 17 and she turned 18 on November 1st. Honestly one of the best times of our young lives.

It was an unbelievable time, that big confederate flag covered the whole backstage, we were down on the outfield area nothing but t shirts bell bottoms and halter tops. And big leather belts. Still married to a great lady.

When they played Free Bird and really got it going, we thought the coliseum was going to come apart.

I have been to a few Day On The Green, but not that one. I was at my first duty station in NJ. I still listen to them!

The original band was one of our all time favorites along with The Rolling Stones, which we’ve been fortunate enough to see six times. Twice at Oakland also in the early nineties. Some great music was made in the seventies, eighties and nineties.
