I've always been amazed by this but not for the reasons you might think.

If they were such great stone masons, why would they not make all the stones the same shape size with interlocking tabs? Like Legos, it would be more efficient in shipping, assembly, etc, etc.

I've always been amazed by this but not for the reasons you might think.

If they were such great stone masons, why would they not make all the stones the same shape size with interlocking tabs? Like Legos, it would be more efficient in shipping, assembly, etc, etc.

Years ago I watched a PBS special on the stone masonry in South America. On camera the host took a very rough block about 2' square and chipped it with another stone, fit it to another like in the pictures, took him about 1/2 an hour.
