Looks like it has a big ass Allison or Rolls Royce in it.

It's called "My Sweetie"

son of a b***c if I would have known all that I would have followed along for a chance to take a peak. Seems like way to valuable to be towing around on an open trailer.

Strangely you can buy some of these older hydros for reasonable prices.

U-17 John Francis My Sweetie (1954-1955) Courtesy: Hydroplane History lesliefield.com

HISTORY OF U-17 JOHN FRANCIS MY SWEETIE

Horace Dodge’s My Sweetie – John Francis is a John Hacker design of 1954 and built by renowned Hydroplane builder Les Staudacher. She was the third in the series of racers with the name My Sweetie. This boat was named after Horace’s son John Francis Dodge and christened by Horace’s 5th wife, Gregg Sherwood Dodge. The 32′ hydro carried the unlimited racing number of U-17 and only raced for the 1954 and 1955 seasons. After the ’55 season, she was put away into storage in Dodge’s original boat factory in Detroit, mostly intact with her Allison V-12 aircraft engine and original Dan Arena gearbox. Notable boat collector Tom Mittler recovered her and sold her to Dr. Ken Muscatel, who along with the Hydroplane Museum, restored her. She made her debut on Lake Chelan, Washington in 2014. U-17 John Francis My Sweetie will be running at the South Tahoe Wooden Boat Classic.

'My Sweetie', John Hacker design.

Fuckin a, my favorite boat designer.

Not that it matters one little bit, but Hacker was a childhood friend of Henry Ford.

whoops, 74Spectra beat me to it.

Bag it and pump it, as most recoveries. There was this story from 2015 about the sinking at the Lake Tahoe Show after receiving the Best Hacker of Show award. Claims battery was down and had required a jump start earlier. Mentioned rains, in the comments one commenter mentioned it appearing as if it was taking on water earlier.
Another comment was from another claimed to be the salvage diver and it being nerve racking, not wanting to cause further damage with a crowd watching.

Yeah the U-17 My Sweetie sunk during the Concours De'Elegance show at Tahoe. My buddy sent me pics that morning as he helps the Riva family with the event.
