The latest pickup my son just grabbed to replace the beater in the background. You know, cause who wants to drive a new truck all the time...

My first truck was a '66, big window C-10 long bed. 283/Powerglide. This was circa 1972. When it wasn't at home or the beach, it was at our trailer in Jolly Knight. My dad sold it out from under me, when I was away at Boot Camp in '75.

I regretfully sold two square bodies for pennies on the dollar in 2015 as I left my life in the PNW behind for greener/dryer pastures (kept the landcruiser). Wouldn't have cost me anything to leave them sit, but they would have just kept deteriorating. $4k for the truck and $3k for the blazer less wheels and tires 😭😭😭. They were both very nice, and I did all the restoration work on the truck myself, including new sheetmetal, body work, prime & blocking, paint, and interior. Hope the new owners are enjoying them. Kids, don't sell ANYTHING. @bonesfab has it figured out!

For some reason, I have zero desire to own another square body. Next old truck will be an early ford. I think Ford had way better styling from the late 60's on through the mid 90's. GM overcame them in '95 IMO with the new updated OBS interior, so much better than Fords.

You nailed the stance on the grey pickup.... Im looking now for a Baja Beater to keep in Rosarito place.... frankly that one'd be too pretty for down there but love the look.

Took a break from work last night and rode my bike over to the local highschool football boosters car show. This was my pick of the show. I had a unibody for a few years, survivor and it had a lumber rack. I used it to haul material once in a while or to do estimates out of if I thought people needed to see that image from their carpenter😂 View attachment 1261374
My buddy did a different take on his Unibody:

Camaro front stub, 468, tubbed and ‘31 Ford Commercial headlights. Fun piece.

He owns Motion Metalworks near Augusta GA. I think his guys posted some shenanigans with it on their Instagram

Not too great of shots of my old hiboy, only ones handy digital. Rifle in the window gunrack though... good 'ol days. It was actually a retired sawmill "woods pickup" when I got it. It was only 4 years old, but was beat to shit. I did a ton of work on it, learned body work & painting on that pickup. It had a ton of "mud" in it, but it looked good in the end. I was proud of it! The other pic has a damn Z28 in the way...:)

Was heading to college in Arizona, and that damn hiboy with its 428 & tall sticky tires that didn't want to spin would just break something seems like whenever it was throttled just a bit aggressively. It spit out drivelines, broke yokes, U-joints, trans output shaft, front Dana 44 spider gears, etc., every chance it got, so, not having any connections or a place to work on it in AZ, it traded it to fellow for this '79 GMC. I swapped 1980 headlights, thought they looked cool at the time. It was stock, so made a better "apartment dweller" pickup.

The 1960 f100 I bought up in Prescott, beautiful truck, it only needed the bed repainted due to peeling clear coat on the drivers side. Plan was to maybe level it with some clean wheels and all terrains. It was tough to drive without the power steering and it was a manual, ended up driving my other classic a lot more so I sold it only a few months after, mostly because it would need more than I wanted to spend at the time to get it driving how I wanted.

Would love another f100 or c10/k10 at some point down the line.

Here’s how my 76 sits as of now. Mom and dad bought it new in 76. I got it when I turned 16. By then it had 397k on it. Mostly interstate 40 miles pulling dads boats back and forth. Step dad and I tore it down. Put a mild 350 in it and a B&M turbo 350. My right foot and it got me in trouble quite a bit through high school in the mid 90d. Beat the crap out of it in the desert. Lol took it apart about 10 years ago for a father daughter build with my oldest . She lost interest and I wasn’t going to build it for her without her doing some work so it got put on the back burner. Hopefully soon I will get her back on the street.

I’ve been thinking I need an old pickup truck again in the fleet, something used and well worn in, patina is okay and just the right amount of crustiness to keep it real. While restored and fixed up stuff is cool, I like survivor stuff better that lets you imagine a story behind it and also is just functional and not something you have to worry about.

I’ve never had a Ford highboy, I think that’s my next move when the right one pops up, big block, 4x4, auto trans, power steering. Maybe even a flat bed LOL

Here is a cool 1974 Ford 4x4 flatbed.

Not a work truck but this is bad ass.

These early 70s to maybe late 80s [like @H20 Toie ] are something special.

Can anyone share a website for buying such vintage trucks that aren't as purdy as the ones I see on this thread. Obviously a lot of time & money put into these gorgeous time pieces. I want something I can keep in my garage in Rosarito... too much crime to use a purdy truck down there so need more of a Baja Beater .... she'll need to start and run reliably with working AC but dead paints fine. You can't have em look too good down there.... and can't bring a lot of attention to it when parked at night at a restaurant.

Needs to be a Cali or AZ truck cause in Baja they beat em up offroad really badly.

I had this bronco from age 17-22, I beat on this thing unmercifully for years, glamis, Mexico, local canyons nightly 😉 I bought it for $4500, built an 8 point cage, lifted it, 33” tires, lockers, roof and doors off 8+months a year in SoCal. I ended up rolling it one night hitting a corner on the street a little to hot and ran out of horsepower while drifting🤦‍♂️ it had some body damage but nothing too major looking back. I ended up giving it away to a friend, he dropped some coin into it and made it shiny, that started a whole gen 1 bronco thing around town with some local ballers and $50k broncos became a thing. Early bronco market is just insane now, I don’t want to talk about it😂

....and my generation is f*cked!

all the cool shit is old😕
Afraid so... but its still cool watching these frame off builds... so many running at this new build market.... to think the K5 I had would sell for $50-100K today is mind boggling... but its just market trends and popularity drives price. As bad as I want another one I just can't rationalize spending around $40- $50K on one that fits my desires. I try to look at these things in a want vs need way. I may lose out on this truck thing though.

Definitely feelng a mid life crisis coming on

BTW... I was just echatting with builder doing his second K5... total frame off full redo down to nuts... he's got another few months to do and I commented he's definitely looking at a $100K area truck .... he responded saying a guy came in his shop that new him and offered $200K and he was still removing rust from frame at that stage.... he then said his last one went for $200K and it was better built than one he showed that sold for $340K! Ok... we've lost our minds!

The 48 is my favorite. My Father sold it in the early 60's, then the guy who bought it traded it to my Dad for his motorhome in 1988. Still in the family, my sister owns it now. It has been on the showroom for several months.

I have a soft spot for that body style. My first "hot rod" was a 50, with a 5.0 and a T5. Really, a rolling death trap. Stock brakes and steering 🤣 Since then, I think I've owned 5 48-50 F-1's, and a couple 51 and 52's. Always sold them to "move forward". Someday I'm going to keep one.

My 52 Ford. Original Flathead with a S10 5 speed. Starts every time. View attachment 1263225 View attachment 1263226
The first flathead T5 swap I ever drove was a truck like that probably 20 years ago. Was lowered with a 4spd, and the guy wanted it more "farm" looking. A friend had some springs made for it, ad put in the T5. I think I gave him a factory radio as a hole filler?
The truck was night and day different with the T5. Able to run freeway speed, and low enough first to be fun around town.
