How much is a cord of cut & split oak firewood in Havasu?
I'm delivering Tanks new Cig in a few weeks. Happy to load down the dually with firewood if someone makes it worth my effort.

Not sure you’ll find oak here. There’s really only one place in town and in the past it was WAY overpriced and only juniper and pine.

I can tell you in cave creek a 1/2 cord of mix oak and juniper is $400. Not sure that helps.

I haven’t checked the place next to All American battery this season. They typically have some decent wood but it’s expensive.

ah gotcha. You’d get a premium for it out here.
Don't wanna gouge anyone. It's cut & split from our property. I believe it's all white & red oak, might be some hickory mixed in. No pine or anything like it around here.

I’d say $1,000 considering you’re delivering.

I hope you guys aren't burning oak in your fireplace. Oak is for BBQ only.

In Santa Maria it's sacrilegious to burn oak in a fireplace. Oak is for Santa Maria style BBQ. I burn other types of wood in the fireplace.

I have never heard this in 30 years of selling wood

I sell 30+ cords of oak firewood every year. Thats all we burn except for really cold nights I'll throw some madrone in..

I think its a California thing..... (surprised!)
I live in an area called Newbury Park/ Thousand Oaks, and ironically all of the oak trees are tagged and its a big fine if you are caught cutting one down much less burning one.

We sell tan oak primarily (which isn't actually oak) and live oak. Black oak grows up here, but there aren't many in my area.

Tan oak was a big deal up here up into the early 70's for the tannic acid. Hence the name. Now it's like a weed that has taken over from the over logging practices of the past. Clear the fir and redwood and the tan oak goes nuts rather than being an under canopy smaller tree. Cut one down and 20 grow out of the stumps. At least it burns good!

We sell for $400 a cord and have repeat customers mostly. I use it as a gym membership that pays me.

My son grew up in SM & only uses red oak for his bbq/smoker. His bbq skills surpass most anyone. His best friend growing up was or might still be the bbq chef at Jockos.

As in Santa Maria, California? I'm sorry, but I find that funny. Don't get me wrong, I love Santa Maria BBQ. But we burned oak all the time in Reno. It ran about $300/cord pre-Covid. Can't get oak firewood in Montana. At all. How do you guys feel about oak furniture and shelving? LOL :)

Settle down there AB, it's just firewood. You go right ahead and burn whatever you want.

We have a fire pit at the springs, I trucked in my own load of oak in my Yukon (filled up the rear completely) and drove it out and stacked it. I think it lasted us like 10 years. I’d estimate I got probably half to a little over a third of a cord in the Yukon (XL).

We got it from Redlands at the time, but that place is gone, it’s now a mall where Sprouts is now.

Buddy lived in Thousand Oaks. He planted a an oak in his front yard. 20 years later it was BIG and the roots were playing havoc on his plumbing. Went to have it cut down and code enforcement came out, “you can’t cut that down” he’s like “why not? My tree, my land, I planted the damn thing”. Code enforcement, “doesn’t matter. Huge fine if you cut it down” (like 10k or some crazy shit).

I believe that was the final straw of why he sold and bought a 20 acre farm in Texas. While surveying land, there was two large trees. He turns to the local realestate guys (two good ol. Boys) asks “hey, who do I have to talk to about cutting the trees down?” The realestate guys are puzzled. “Uh, I guess you could find someone in town to do it” he says, “no, I mean, who at the city do I get the permit from?” They still look puzzled, “partner, there’s no permit. You land, your trees, you do as you wish” one of the guys put a hand on his shoulder, “this isn’t California”.

CLAAAAASSIC.

Absolutely true story.

Can’t cut a tree down on your own property?! I’d lose my fuckin mind!!!

We burned black and white Oak that I cut and split off the property for decades.
I hear hardwood is about $290 a cord up here, and softwood...pine and cedar...is about $200.
I still have 6 acres of Oak, but I backed off cutting it..my son cuts for his place but Momma and I switched to North Idaho Energy logs.
I can do a day on the MS 391 but I pay for it for the next 3-5 days. Back goes sideways.
That said I will never let go of my Stihl saws.
Never.
The energy logs burn incredibly clean, almost no ash, and the stove pipe stays cleaner too. I buy a cord of softwood every other year and we use it to get the energy logs going. We burn between 2 and 3 units of them per winter.
If black Oak is really going for a grand a cord in Havasu...dang..

My Dad’s company made wooden doors. Every door leading outside came with a solid oak threshold. They provided the doors for many of the homes built in Orange County, and elsewhere, in the 50s and 60s. The ends of each of those oak thresholds had a cut out portion. Their mill produced massive amounts of those cut out blocks. They made outstanding firewood which required no cutting, just some newspsper and a small amount of kindling to get them lit.

Been reading this and laughing given my property is covered with oak and maple. That being said in many places it's illegal to transport firewood due to the potential for infestation by bugs. Might want to look into that before starting a trip and then needing a place to "lose" the firewood with a boat in tow. Just thinking out loud here.

Sorry. I'm always bummed when I'm quoted before I can edit. I need to slow down with my posts and make sure that's what I REALLY want to say and the tone I REALLY want to use. Sorry to be snarky. :)

no kidding. I pay between 0-150 per cord cut split and delivered right next to where it gets stacked. the 0 is not quite free, but it might as well be.

i am shocked to hear what some pay to heat their homes here. lots of old houses with no or very little insulation. old windows and doors manufactured before seals were invented. but a 70k lifted truck in the drive so at least their priorities are in order......

Sadly I understand what you are saying. I live in Missouri for many reasons. I'm a strong conservative. If someone pulls me over & asks about my firewood, I'm just seasoning it in the bed of my wife's truck. They can FUCK off while they are fucking off.

I think that is one of the reasons firewood is so cheap around here. there have been so many issues in recent years that you are not allowed to move firewood very far. big fines and if you keep getting caught they are known to take vehicle, everything attached to it, and everything in it.

issues have been red oak wilt, emerald ash borer infestation. elm disease. one year there was a fly infestation that somehow brought caterpillars which ate the leaves off maple trees which made the maples not happy cause of photosynthesis, or maybe lack of?
