Lake Nacimiento is now at 12%. The County of Monterey has ruined a terrific lake and its functionality as a reservoir. But the good folks, land owners etc... are not taking this sitting down. Next is the recent newsletter.

NRWMAC FILES LAWSUIT IN SLO
As many of you may already know, on Sept 19, 2018 NRWMAC was denied by the Monterey County court the motion to intervene into the current lawsuit between Monterey and The Salinas Valley Water Coalition. Even though the State Water board had requested we attempt this method, the Monterey Court showed its bias and denied our intervention. (The court did rule “without prejudice”, meaning that NRWMAC can petition again after the state water board has filed its opinion.)
And, NRWMAC is striking back... on two fronts.
First, NRWMAC has put the state water board on notice about this issue and our being "Hometowned" in Monterey County, and is appealing that decision with the state water board directly.

Second, NRWMAC is filing its own lawsuit against Monterey County Water Resources Agency because of their mismanagement of recreation at the lake.
The lawsuit being drafted now should be filed near the end of October and will be filed in the San Luis Obispo County Courts. The goal of the lawsuit is to force Monterey County to adopt a recreation plan that will protect all aspects of recreation in the future. The next NRWMAC update will include a link to the filed suit.
We suspect that Monterey County is going to vigorously oppose this suit and will do everything in their power to prevent us from changing the status quo that they currently enjoy. We cannot fight this battle without your help.
To date, several hundred people have donated and generously given to the NRWMAC legal fund and we want to thank everyone for their contributions and continued support. Looming ahead of us is a large uphill battle and it is now critical that everyone step up and help in the effort. The donations and contributions of lake property owners and enthusiasts is going to be key to fighting this battle.
INTERLAKE TUNNEL UPDATE
Monterey County has canceled the Interlake Tunnel Meeting that was scheduled for November 30th, stating that modeling data wont be completed until next year.
NRWMAC has been asking to be involved in this process for years, particularly to review the initial modeling direction and current modeling goals and assumptions of this project, and we have been refused this data for years.
By waiting until the data is "complete," Monterey County is ensuring that we do not have a voice. Once the data is complete it is way too late to offer or suggest alternative solutions or measures. This steam rolling and exclusion from the process is one more example of just how arrogant and unresponsive Monterey County is regarding the lake, property owners and enthusiasts opinions and rights.
NACIMIENTO NOW AT 12% CAPACITY
While those of us residing at the lake can easily step outside and see the damage firsthand wrought by Monterey County Water Resources Agency, some concerned people haven't been able to witness it's decline for themselves. Take a look at some recent photos of our beloved Lake Nacimiento…

A boat ran aground and capsized. A tournament inboard ran aground and flipped.

HELP NRWMAC SAVE THE DRAGON
“Save The Dragon” is not simply a turn of phrase; it’s a fervent plea for help. Lake Nacimiento is not going to save itself from Monterey County’s mismanagement. Without a court’s intervention, Monterey County is not going to realize the error of its profligate ways and turn off the drain spigot, all by itself.
NRWMAC’s lawsuit against Monterey County Water Resources is the start of the correction of this dire situation, and will force Monterey County to adopt a recreation plan that will protect all aspects of recreation in the future for the rights of lake owners and recreational users. However, this litigation will require funding support from all lake property owners and enthusiasts to make this happen.
NRWMAC’s GoFundMe legal campaign, with your contributions, has raised over $68,000.00 and we are grateful to all of those who have contributed. Being the primary source of funding for these legal efforts, we need everyone’s help to circulate this newsletter, tell everyone you know why this is so important and to please donate today.
For more information and updates, please go to our website, www.NRWMAC.org or go directly to the GoFundMe location at www.gofundme.com/lake-nacimiento-save-the-dragon
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
We wish to thank everyone that supports NRWMAC, and as everyone continues to come up with more ways to help, we need everyone to get involved. NRWMAC needs volunteers to help with getting the word out, donations, sign-ups, handouts, t-shirt sales, and help at functions and events.
You can help the effort by donating time, dollars, purchasing merchandise or signing up for events at www.nrwmac.org/get-involved . www.nrwmac.org/get-involved
