I don't think they are doing permanent checkpoints anywhere

i was wondering if they make that area a permanent no wake zone or if it is just for the checkpoint. I would think it is just for the checkpoint/weekend

Went thru it about an hour ago. About 4-5 boats on patrol. 8 or so jet skis telling guys to drive to the beach to get checked out. First they check for all safety equipment then check the operator. In and out in 2-3 minutes. Actually glad to see this. There has been way too many reckless/drunken boating accidents lately.

I'm not a fan of these but once in a while I'm good with it.

I'm just not a fan of making areas on the main river no wake just to stop people. It's one thing to stop them coming into or out of existing no wake zones at Martinez, Fishers, or Hidden shores but I think this is lame. It would be like a DUI checkpoint on the freeway.

Oh I agree 100% with you. Going up river through the no wake zone sucked. Even one of the cops said the reason they don't do it on a big weekend is because it would cause accidents

checkpoints are constitutionally illegal and I don't give a shit what liberal asshole judge said it was worth the inconvenience to our RIGHTS to do so.. that dumb mother fucker forgot his job. Which was to rule on the supreme law of the land, not rewrite it.

Oh, Dave! That would be conservative Chief Justice Reinquist in a 6 to 3 decision also signed by Scalia and the rest of the SCOTUS conservatives. In fact, it was liberal justices Brennan and Stevens who wrote the dissent. As an interesting aside, Reinquist also wrote the Graham v Connor decision which governs all use of force and I believe the same groups of justices supported and opposed this decision. Generally it is conservative justices who are most supportive of police authority under the 4th Amendment. Perhaps a Hillary SCOTUS will suit you better. 😏 Back in about a week- maybe we can finally share a beer?

I totally agree. It is Conservative judges that have been eroding the 4th, 5th and 6th amendments to the Constitution and Conservative judges that think anyone should be stopped, questioned and even searched without probable cause.

You're a Libertarian Dave. :thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup

SRice,

So are these checkpoints mandatory or can you respectfully say no thanks and be on your way?

I tried that once at Cottonwood , said no thanks to cop on jet ski , said I just need gas and ignored him and headed straight to gas dock ... 5 of them came running over and performed their little routine while I was filling up !

Were they checking people going both ways? Or was it only boats on the way up or down? In other words, if you're checked on the way up and all is good, would they stop you coming back down? I realize of course that most of the alcohol consumed happens before you head back down, but if your safety equipment is all in order when you're checked on the way up, that wouldn't be different.

Nothing on the way up. Only in the afternoon on the way down.

Not much , just did all my equipment inspection and breath smelling while I was pumping my gas ! You should've seen them run from one end of the dock to where I was . Just like a lot of people on this site , I'm sick and tired of the witch-hunt these people put on in the guise of safety
