No Costco in havasu?

I was talking with a pal today who lives out there, he was telling me that it’s either palm desert or Vegas for Costco?

What’s the population of havasu these days? i figured it was surely large enough to support a Costco. Makes you wonder just how much stuff those places actually move out the front door for them to justify setting up shop.

Well Costco and Sam’s Clubs are a block away from each other in SanBernardino.

If Costco setup in LHC, they’d maybe have a chance if they opened more to the south side of town. Anyone coming up from Parker or lives on the south side would rather do that then drive all the way up to the top of Havasu. Of course my logic says to seperate them and yet Lowes and HD are right next to each other as well. So what do I know.

The two super walmarts in Parker and Havasu though are both pretty decent though, so not totally sure Costco could steal that action when Wally world is free.

Ha. I remember when the K Mart went in Havasu in the early90’s. A lot smaller town then. It’s gone now.

Right but that is supporting Laughlin/Bullhead/FT Mohave/Needles/Golden Valley. So if you were to add all those together it should be close to 100k population. Plus the tourism from Laughlin.

I think the merchandising portion of Costco would work well serving Havasu/Parker. But I think the vender portion of Costco would hurt the local economy, tire shops, contractors. HVAC, etc. Which is probably why it was shot down years ago.

Me personally I would love for a Costco to open a location at the 40/95 on the north side of the 40. This way it could serve Kingman, Yucca, Needles, the Landing, Havasu, Parker, etc. and it would keep the delivery semi trucks out of town, easy in easy out from the 40 for suppliers.
And the people that complain Walmart is “so far out there” they can continue to shop local and another positive of a Costco opening here it would create a lot of decent paying jobs for locals.

Ol' Fart and Smile would do well migrating out east like that. There is definitely a need for a warehouse style store like that in Havasu. Buying beer, TP, Papertowels, food in bulk for a vacation place just makes sense.

Walmart seems to beat the regular stores hands down in meat. I go there now and shop primarily, and only go to a store that carries something that Walmart for some reason does not.

For example, most stores sell ground beef but not a ground cut like say chuck or sirloin so you’re getting lips and assholes instead. Walmart sells ground chuck and maybe another ground cut that is what it says it is.

Additionally, Walmart sells better grades of beef than you find in most stores, ie CAB (the highest grade of Choice).

Where I moved from there was a Sam’s and Costco. We exclusively shopped at Costco. Sam’s seems to have a “people of Walmart” feel.
Where we live in NH now, Costco is almost an hour drive. Right on the border of Mass. Busy as hell. NH has no sales tax so the Massholes go to that Costco.
There is though a Sam’s about ten minutes away. I learning to like Sam’s.

Depends on what void the consumer needs filled.

Anytime I am in Havasu, I have been able to make a few phone calls to mom and pop shops and find what I need that day. Specialty items might take a few days to arrive, but those are typically not available on most big store or small store shelves anyways.

Nostalgia incoming; I remember going to the True Value between Mesquite and McCulloch with my dad in the 90's. There was always someone there that would ask what you were looking for, know exactly where it was in the entire store, take you right to it, and answer almost any questions you had about it.

It's hard to find that level of service at Home Depot, Costco, Walmart, etc.

I'll always spend a little extra time calling around to see if I can find what I need through a small business before I head for the big box stores.

I can tell you most of the fast food places in Parker lost their employees to Starbucks in Terribles.

Now most of the fast food places aren’t open during stated business hours, or they lock the doors and it’s drive thru only, or they are just closed when they should be open.

The city doesn’t turn any of these big box stores down, the stores turn the city down for a number of reasons. One of the biggest is our proximity to an interstate highway. That’s why Kingman has a lot of stuff that we do not have.

Yep! That’s the best spot for a Costco to be able to attract business from Kingman, Havasu, Bullhead and Parker.

Hell I’d drive there for the hot dogs alone. As it is now I hit Vegas or Buckeye for Costco.

Correct. The city would love to have a big name like costco come into town. The city sees jobs and growth. Costco would be in havasu if the math worked out.

Going south there is a really nice Smart & Final in Blythe. We go there once a month, and it is clean and not crowded.

There is nice Smart & Final in Bullhead it was remodeled and and sq footage was increased to full size store .It’s off of Hwy 95 about 53 miles away from LHC
