We went Friday and it was perfect. Q2 was cool and quick. Torrance’s 3.64 was stout and Paul Lee being 3rd in FC was beyond impressive. He held #1 spot until the last pair went down the track.
All but one of my friends racing sportsman classes got thru first round and will race on Saturday.
It should be a great weekend of racing.

With Bernie on board, possibly doing much better. If you don’t know about Paul Lee, look them up on Wikipedia is a pretty accomplished individual man has in the same drive. I’ve seen them at cars and coffee in Huntington Beach The has a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ’s , just a real laid-back very good guy. Has my respect X10.

Let’s give a shout out for Doug Kalatta, see if he could pull it off finally

Paul Lee has always been legit.
From primer’d no name rides to legit teams he’ll pedal it for you!
I’d love to see Dougy finally wrap one up, but Leah is right there if he or Torrance falters.
Just like Brittany snatched it away last year.

.., I just watched the first round of qualifying on Facebook… I had no idea you could do that until today… I am assuming that the second round will also be on Facebook… Exactly when I have no clue???… Seems a little odd to me NHRA on Facebook???…

… I recently discovered a webpage or whatever you call it on Facebook that started in June and has now 52,000 followers it is called… Hippies of the 60s and 70s… I have been somewhat following it as I kind a lived the life… the stories are really good… And some of the chicks that post were really cute hippie girls in the 60s… I’ve told a couple of my 60’s stories…but not all of them yet👍

There's a lot of good content on facebook and some not so good.
… Yeah with Facebook …You kind of have to weed through it if you’re not familiar with it… I’m pretty new to it, and it seems like they could lay it out a little more logically???…

… I was trying to find a video of Paisano and Matsubura on YouTube… Couldn’t find it so I just googled it. …It looks like it was Mondello and Matsubura in the Fiat… and it was Paisano and Matsubara in the Funny Car…
… I guess my memory is not what it once was🤷🏽‍♀️

I still have my art book from when i was 10 or so some 51 years ago and it has pictures i drew( not good ones lol) of PISANO & MATSUBARO car, cool to see name still out there. My last name is McEwen so you will find plenty of the mongoose also, i use to tell everyone that he was my Uncle as a kid, which he isn't but at the time it sounded good. The mongoose, the Snake and Evel Knievel who i got to see jump where my top 3.

Good stuff!

These have been parked together at the NHRA Museum for a while. 👍

@Sharp Shooter , thanks for the pics! Seeing the TF cars in your pics make me think of something told to me years ago: In a great pass, the chassis should be arched, front skins barely touching, but the body panels should be flat, like a cartoon, off like a shot.

Looks like the boys have that straight dialed. Hope for high speeds, low Temps and safe passes!

Think about it, we went from the Winston cigarette drag racing series. Now we’re at In-N-Out burgers and mission foods. The world has changed.
… Still my favorite burger of all time… I’d rather have a burger than a cigarette…

…And certainly congratulations to 59 year old Doug Kalitta… a well-deserved championship👍

Not just the change of sponsors as a matter of just changing companies, but when I started going and Winston sponsored it, they were handing out packs of cigarettes to the race attendees!

In n Out unfortunately wasn’t handing out Double Doubles but I swear they had every food truck they owned in the pits feeding all comers who wanted it (and paid for it). They were even handing out free meals to Veterans (with military ID), which was classy.

Sure there we a few other food vendors (Pinks etc) and the beer/alcohol gardens, but the place was swarming with InO employees.

Kudos to Lindsi, they went all out and it was awesome.

So cool to see the Direct Connection badging on cars again. It is crazy to think back on how Mopar had a catalog that would list exactly what parts you needed to run 12's, or 11's or even 10's if I remember correctly. And then of course there was the Direct Connection poster girls. Mmmmmm. 😻

What a great way to finish off the season, the racing was unreal for the majority of the year and the World Finals definetly delivered. I Can't wait for next seasonand and it looks like Mission will be the only brand of tortillas I buy for a long time.

We're the stands more packed then this ?

We went to the Street Outlaw No Prep Kings finals in Ennis and they had more people then that.

Looks fun !
Oh absolutely. On Saturday the stands were packed for the first of the day Pro qualifying session (Q3 officially). I was shocked myself at the number of people. I thought if they sold more tickets they probably could have had people on the west stands too (which for the past few years have been closed for additional sponsor signage).

However, it’s very fickle. The stands are packed for Nitro sessions. The Pro Stock/PSM is less so and practically everyone leaves for the sportsman and lesser classes.

We stayed after the Pro Q4 session on Saturday and it had emptied out. Saw the alcohol drags and funny cars and had to leave before the sportsman classes. By that time the parking lots had emptied out and no traffic getting out.

In the past I’ve stayed for the whole thing but taking a chick with you changes up the whole program. They’re always hungry, or want to leave because it’s cold or don’t want to sit in the stands more because their ass hurts. Etc.

Ya the stands were busy with the top tier teams. Can’t remember when I took this picture but it definitely was when the day was winding down.

My dad's company used to sponsor a top fuel car back when I was in college. I believe it was 100k a weekend.

We started going to the no prep kings evemt the last few years.and it's a good time. It's literally a tv show so to me it's made to be more entertaining. Last year the weather was ideal, we waited 1.5 hours to park and the place was dam near standing room only. This year the event got rained out and moved a few weeks so was much less crowded.

I grew up going with my dad and grandpa. We took the kids Sunday (with my dad) and they are asking when we can go again. There’s nothing like it. We’re booked for Vegas Dec 1-2 for the sprint car showdown. Hopefully they like it and we can skip the Disney bs and do some real vacations outside of boating!
